I have a 2011 RDX, and there is something in the console that I can't figure out what it is. Please see picture below.

Is this supposed to light up? (It is very dark in the console)

Or is this a plug for an option not purchased with the vehicle?

That should be the night light if it is still working.

I guess it's burned out. How do I remove this to replace the bulb? Does this white plastic pop out, or do I have to open up the whole console?

Or do I have to manually turn on / enable this light somehow?

I've had my 08 RDX from 2010-2019 and that never was an issue. Did you double-check at night to make sure it is working when you turn on the headlights?

Ok I got it out (by 1") ...but, the power cable is so SHORT that I can get it out far enough to grab the bulb and twist!! So I put it back. I guess I will have to open the whole console up to get at it. A summer job.

Yes, I tried in a dark garage with headlights on, and interior light control (in front of sunroof) set to ON. So I think it should be on.

I think the issue you are having is the console light wiring is not long enough to be pulled into the console, due to the way the wire is taped to the retention clip under the shift knob/cup holders. You can fix that by unwrapping the tape and repositioning and retaping clip to give you more slack in the wire. You have to remove the shift knob trim, the two long pieces of silver trim, and the big cupholder section to access the area. Note there is wiring including the SRS airbag wiring in that area so it is recommended that to disconnect the negative battery cable before you start taking apart those sections.

Read this post here to get a more detailed explanation. Unfortunately the pics are no longer there in that Acurazine post, but the description is good. If you need it I may be able to post some pics of the removal process later.

If you are going to attempt this now you may want to do so in heated garage or use a hair dryer (or heat gun carefully on low) to warm up the associated plastic bits. It might be overkill or unnecessary, but I wouldn't want any of the plastic parts or clips to crack due to the Ontario cold.

Also this is probably a non issue for you as it sounds like you got the piece 1" out of the console, but I believe the white piece of plastic is supposed to stay attached to the black base. I manage to separate mine into two pieces I think it supposed to stay in one piece and you rotate the bulb to remove it. See attached pics for what the whole part looks like removed.

Yes I got that entire piece (black and white) out of the mounting hole, approx 1/2". So not enough to grab the bulb and twist.

I have some work planned inside the console, so will look for an opportunity to extend that pigtail length a bit.
