What fuel economy are you getting??
#201
If you think we're worried now, wait till next year when the new EPA Fuel Economy ratings come into effect. EVERYONE is going to feel it. Even the lofty Prius is going to take a hit.
Miles per gallon estimates for most vehicles in city driving are expected to fall between 12 per cent and 30 per cent, while highway estimates will dip on average by 8 per cent. Some vehicles could see a 25 per cent decline.

I have yet to get an RDX, but I do drive a gas guzzler (rx8) and driving on the interstate at 70mph continuously to save gas takes a great deal of discipline. The majority of other cars will fly right past you and yes, even the old lady in the yugo will travel at a sustained speed of 85mph+
I tried driving 70mph while traveling 600 miles up north to montreal once, and nearly fell asleep. Sure it saved tons of gas but it was damned boring. Based on what I've read about the rdx, it seems like it needs another gear to cruise a little quicker without having to go into that big boost level.

The only thing that affects is the number on the window sticker. It has nothing to do with how much $$$ you spend on gas or how many miles between fillups.
This "controversey" reminds me of the people who were angry they had a 200hp car one day and a 195hp car the next, when the car itself hadn't changed a bit.
People are too number-foccused...and that's coming from an accountant.

I can tell I get shitty gas mileage just from the way the needle moves so fast on a simple 25 minute commute averaging about 80mph. Even my 92 Maxima got better gas mileage than that. It seems to drink gas pretty heavily if I hit the gas to make any agressive lane changes to get around a slower car. In long distance hwy traveling it seems to level out a little better. I wish the CL S came with a MPG meter like in the BMWs. Otherwise I'm very happy with this car.

Changing the scale, if it affects all cars equally, is more or less meaningless, even if it is more accurate by the sticker.

I've waited a while to post to get a few tanks in, here is my experience:
MilesxXxMPGxxMID
272.20 16.53 reset
290.70 18.42 18.80
280.20 18.49 19.00
276.60 18.45 19.20
296.00 19.26 19.60
Miles represents the miles on Trip A when I filled the tank; MPG is the miles divided by the number of gallons I filled up; MID is what was on my Trip A display when I filled up. My first tank I accidentally reset the MID fooling around with my settings. Obviously had more spirited driving and idling on my first tank getting oriented, etc.
I usually try to wait for the low fuel indicator to come on before I fill up, but third and fourth tanks, I filled before it came on because I didn't want to be on the other side of town looking for a Mobil gas station. I have been using 93.
I would say my driving is about 60 hwy/40 city. I don't punch it every time, but I'm not stingy with the turbo either. It's just too damn fun not to use it!

Folks - here's my mileage report. I'm not relying on the trip computer, I'm calculating it as I go...
Miles Gallons Tank Econ Running Econ
163 11.48 13.8 14.2
422 15.19 17.0 15.8
613 8.34 22.9 17.5
875 13.00 20.2 18.2
1055 7.50 24.0 19.0
1297 14.38 16.8 18.6
1526 14.07 16.3 18.2
1678 11.57 13.1 17.6
The high tank econ. numbers were on a long road trip, lots of highway (80-ish). Lower numbers include lots of local driving. I do _not_ drive economically (hurry, hurry, get outta my way... it is Boston, gotta drive like a Masshole
I'm OK with the mileage - it's what I was expecting. I'd like to have been plesantly surprised, but I'm not disappointed. I am still very much in the honeymoon stage.

I've had my RDX for 2 months now, around 2500 miles. Up until the last tank of gas, I drove without worrying about my MPG--and my accumulated MPG at this point was 19.6. Mostly highway (%80).
On the most recent tank of gas I've explicitly watched the avg mpg meter (having been reset on trip A) to monitor it. I'm driving more sedately, with less acceleration. I'm really trying to see how I can get it. The result? About 21.0mpg (however, highway is now probably only %50 of my driving, so not quite a good comparison).
I've decided it is far far far more fun not to worry about it, because even when I do I'm only going to get a little bit more out of it. It has been an enjoyable experiment, but I think I'm a 20mpg driver, and that's pretty good by me. I simply love driving the RDX and taking advantage of its acceleration and turbo when needed. Beautiful car to drive.
The gas tank is bigger than my old car, and the end result is that I fill up every Saturday, which is slightly less often than my old car. And that was a central goal of the purchase. Not to save money, but to be able to only fill it up once a week. So I've achieved my goal. Perhaps on a future car I'll worry more about the money, but having had an ugly old beater of a car (which I loved) for 16 years, this is my time to finally enjoy life and not worry about the money.
Just some thoughts...

mileage
I too was worried after the first few tanks 13.5 mpg. I know have 2500 miles on it and am at 20.5 mpg. I am in sales and drive alot so I hope it only gets better. I would also like to share this with everyone, I have driven at least a half a million miles over ten years W/O a ticket. A week after buying my RDX I was caught speeding which is easy to do in this little rocket..

After about a month and 1500 miles of driving, I have averaged about 20.1 mpg total. Mine is mostly all highway driving at 72 mph. However I do live about 12 miles inland from the coast so there is about a 700' elevation change with some turbo boost needed.
I almost always use the cruise control as well.
I traded a 2001 Ford Ranger 4.0 liter with 120,000 miles on it for the RDX and it got about the same mileage so I am not really dissapointed.
This is way more fun to drive as well.
I did my research, particularly on this forum for over a year before buying the RDX and knew what to expect before I purchased my vehicle.

It would be helpful if you would post you average speed along with the mileage numbers to help get a guage on how you compare to others. Last tank was av. speed 27 and mpg was 20.4

ethanol and mileage
I have had my RDX for a year now and am steadily getting better mileage. I can get 24 mpg if I slowly accelerate and coast to most of my stops but, it's hard to do because I like the way the RDX accelerates. When I shift to S and use the paddles and accelerate in first gear, it really takes off but, I can see the effect on my fuel consumption. I have been trying to use Shell - it seems to provide the best mileage and is 93 rather than 92 octane for premium. With the push for ethanol in the gasoline, I think the mileage is going to drop for all cars. Alcohol burns at a slower rate - provides less power - gets less mpg. I also have found that in the winter - the cold temperatures and shorter days - with the lights and the heater on and letting the car idle while scraping the car, mpg drops quite a bit. So far, I have almost 9,000 miles and the average on the odometer for mpg is 20.9. I have read that using the lights alone will drop mileage by 1 or 2 mpg. Does anyone know when the ethanol is added to gasoline (winter or summer), or if you can even buy 100% gasoline anymore?

12-15 mpg?
I plan to trade my rdx soon due to other reasons, but it really makes me wonder how the people on here can get 12-15 mpg? I never got less than 20 on my rdx.Avg about 21 all-around.
It has to be driving style -period. Remember the rdx is drive-by-wire so you have to play with the gas pedal at cruise speed(let loose once in awhile, till u see instant mpg gauge go up). Also u have to accelerate slowly.
People who have honda fits can get 20 mpg if they accelerate fast etc-its all relative.
I use turbo when necessary to pass. I am always at or over speed limits.
I cant figure u guys out

After 2k miles, it has consistantly sustained a 18 mpg average. I can always try to get better, but that would be no thrills. The average speed it shows on display is currently 41; that's what I can remmeber.

My X with 13000km gets about 14.5-16L/100 KM pure city. Highway mileage with 98% highway and 2% city I get about 11-12L/100km.
i guess that is not bad compared to what others here are getting.

Last time I paid attention to the milage was a trip from Ft.Lauderdale to St.Augustine which I got a total of 347 miles from a Tank when I went to fill up checking my tripA minder..
thats close to 20mpg. But I dont drive conservative 80ish.

The BP by my house has a single pump that says "for your toys only" that doesn't have any such additives...
Your point about winter weather is valid - my s2000 gets about 25mpg in the summer and only about 21-22 in the winter (I'm in minnesota). I believe that the insanely cold air is more dense, and leads to a higher amount of oxygen entering the engine. In order to maintain the correct a/f ratio, more gas is needed. Result: unusually high amounts of power that you can't use because it is icy, and bad mileage. Everyone is a winner!

mileage
have about 4500 on mine and can average (according to the display, not real math) about 26 or 27 on the highway at 70 mph with no AC on. My overall mileage over the last 1000 miles ( i haven't reset trip *'b*') is 23 at an average speed of 37 mph. I know this is a lot better than most are getting, but at 3.45 per gallon I'm driving like a soccer mom.

Diggin' the RDX!
Just checked my Trip B which I haven't reset in 1,072 miles...average is not too good...16.6. Factor in the cheating the computer does and I believe reality is 15 to 15.5 mpg. Ouch. This is probably 75% city but I am not a lead foot by any means. I get on the turbo maybe once a tank. Just over 10k on the odo. Hopefully it will improve very soon since it seems that some get better mpg after 10k.
Current tank is 17.8 mpg (factor in computer cheat and figure reality is about 16.5 or so); about 1/4 tank left.

I get 17.4, my wife gets 16.5 even though I can beat her in any race in the RDX or my G35C. We got 10k on the clock and the Oddometer is the most accurate I have ever seen, I calibrated with a GPS unit and it was dead on.

19.8 mpg, combined highway + city, but mostly highway. That's from my daily commute to work, 58 miles each way.
Here's a question. For those folks who posted they anally track mileage by the day and even do statistical analysis, my question is why? Is there a mark below which you'll get rid of the vehicle? Do you ask for reimbursement from Honda, if it's below the advertised mileage? Do you just get mad or happy, depending on the direction of the trend line? Are you going to lower/raise your speed by 6.4 mph to get your targeted result? Have you ever done anything in your life in which you threw caution to the wind?
Get real.

I have driven about 170 kilometers (106 miles) with my rdx and I'm getting 16.5L/100km (about 14mpg- 85% city, 15% highway). I was hoping for a better fuel economy but I think I'll have to wait and hope that it gets better.

Gas mileage sucks-but
I agree that gas mileage on this vehicle is way too low-BUT you must look at the relative factor.A toyota corolla in 80% city traffic like NY will get MUCH LESS than its advertised MPG.I own one(corolla) and it can get as low as 24mpg if u in bumper to bumper and hard on start ups-otherwise I can get 35 on average.
So if the RDX is getting some of you 15mpg in city-thats pretty normal I would say.
I get all around 20 to 21 on my RDX. 50/50..

2. Is there a mark below which you'll get rid of the vehicle? Absolutely, if the price of gas goes to $10 a gallon and if my mileage drops from 20 to 15.
3. Do you ask for reimbursement from Honda, if it's below the advertised mileage? No, but I would continue to bring the vehicle in to have then address the Problem if mileage was substantially below advertised such as 12mpg on the highway.
4. Do you just get mad or happy, depending on the direction of the trend line? No.

6. Have you ever done anything in your life in which you threw caution to the wind? Yes, when I bought my first Honda, a Prelude after years of owning nothing but Fords and saying I would never buy a foreign car.

The baseline can be used to determine if there is a problem. What if you drive the same path, buy the gas at the same station and your mileage drops 10%? It may indicate a problem needing attention. Without the baseline you wouldn't know.
