What fuel economy are you getting??

I did that with one of my Accords. Bought it, and then drove it to Florida the very next morning. That car gave me 80,000 trouble free miles with great MPG and performance.
The very next Honda I drove in hard stop and go traffic for the next week or two after purchase. Again, years of trouble free miles with great MPG.
End result is that I think you'll be OK whatever you do.

You have 2 options with oil, Mobil 1 and keep your warranty or anything else and no warranty.

If one changes oil oneself, how does the dealer know that he or she been using Mobil 1?
I have been and planning to, at least, change the oil myself once I get my new RDX in couple of wks.

As the engine and other powertrain parts break in, I HIGHLY doubt you will see more than a 2-3mpg increase. Figure in the fact that most MPG estimates are on the high side for city and a tad conservative for highway (IF you can maintain 60mph on the highway)
Im on the fence with the RDX because of this very MPG issue. If I readof you owners getting 16-17 during break in, id fully expect to see 19mpg once you reach 5k miles...but sub15 is not looking good. My current 4.0l 265hp xterra gets 16.4 mpg city and 22 highway...I was hoping to improve on that MPG with the RDX, not go down!

The burden of proof is not on the owner, if something fails it is covered unless they can prove that the aftermarket product CAUSED the problem. Not just that an aftermarket product was used. That said, any synthetic FTW.

2, being a true 4x4, it goes down quite a bit if in 4x4hi, but theres no need for the 4x4 unless im offroad or on sketchy roads. I know the cars are apples and oranges, but its still surprising to see a big 4L with that kinda power still getting better mpg than what people are reporting here.

So yes, initially the burden of proof is on the dealer/manufacture, but once they do a simple oil analysis and see regular dino in the engine, they will kill you with that single point, and if you cant prove that you used syn and did the oil changes (receipts), then you can bet that your powertrain warranty will be denied. If you dont think this happens, ive seen it happen many times with turbo cars, and its not easy to go up agains a car manufacture...regardless of how many times you preach the Magnuson Moss Act. Basically,a blown rdx engine/turbo would raise eyebrows, becuase the manufacture doesnt want to be stuck with a 7k+ repair.
Thats what I meant by saying the burden of proof will fall back onto you, the consumer.

18.70 MPG with my first tank. I just topped the tank off this morning. This is my first fuel purchase since taking delivery two weeks ago today.
Not bad mileage considering we idled for 30 minutes at delivery and I really don't know if the dealer topped it off at delivery.
Mix of driving conditions. Of course I have not stomped on the turbo given the 600 mile break in period.

Looks as if the average fuel economy rating is somewhere between 16 to 20 with mixed city/highway commute. Hmmm, sounds about the same as my RL. We've been discussing economy over there too.... Averaging 12 mpg in the city, 27 on the highway, around 20 mpg in mixed driving. From what we've been able to gather, its the extra weight and the SH-AWD that causes the low economy.

After about 500 miles, the trip computer shows I have gotten 19.6mpg. Not sure how accurate that is. I haven't been recording gallons of gas and mileage. I drive mostly city driving with lots of bumper-to-bumper traffic here in northern virginia, probably 80% city 20% hwy. I have been very light on the gas pedal during the break in period though.

I just traveled 250 miles on the highway and I am reporting 24.5 MPG. I am very happy with that. I had the cruise on 71 MPH almost the whole time. Temperature was about 80 degress if that helps any. I now have about 1200 miles on my RDX.
I know its been said, but you can't expect super mileage out of a 4000lb vehicle with AWD and turbo. My Subaru Impreza WRX which was also turbo and AWD, only achevied about 25 MPG on the highway and wasn't near as heavy or big as the RDX. My wife's Mini Cooper S is turbo and it averages 28 MPG and its small and light. So getting this from the RDX is great.

I have been getting 12.4 L/100 KM or 19 MPG with 90-95% city driving. So, it is almost the same as the stated MPG by manufacturer. But I don't really press hard on the gas. Only went over 4000 rpm twice to pass a couple cars though. I guess those who gets 15 mpg or below use the turbo a lot and could be driving in the sport mode !
Hopefully, the gas mileage will be better after the break in period (currently 800 KM on the odemeter). I will be happy if I can get 21 mpg mixed with city/hwy

For all of you posting your results, please specify if your numbers come from the dash computer or if you are calculating the results at fill-up. Some of you are explaining which way you got the results which are great! I just want to make sure how accurate the results really are (being the the most accurate way is calculating after fill-up).
Thanks!
Thanks!

Same for me as well. I am just taking the data from the dash. I think if I calculate from what I pump, it will have more variation as there could a couple litres difference from the tank is full or complelely full. You know what I mean

Milage by Trip Computer AND manual calculation
With over 1500 miles on the odometer, this last tank fill-up was after avout 337 miles from the past fill-up. A mix of highway and city (slightly more highway).
The trip computer said 21.6 mpg and my calculation (miles driven/gallons pumped) was 20.9 mpg. The past two fill-ups were are different gas stations.

I've got almost 5k miles on mine and average around 17-19 city depending on how hard I drive it. I average around 20-21 all around mixed driving and have reached 24-27 if I take it easy on the pedal.
