VIN starts with 5J8
So am I reading this right? The first digit corresponds to region of manufacture, so 5 would be North America. The 2nd identifies the vehicle of manufacturer, in this case Jeep?

Don't worry, your car wasn't manufactured by Jeep. Typically the first 3 letters correspond to manufacturer (manufacturers have many different codes).
Jeeps typically start with 1J4 (mine does, so does this 2011 Grand Cherokee for sale 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, $25,000 - Cars.com , so they've been using that code for a while).
If you look at the last letter in your VIN before the 6 numbers, that tells you where the car was built, and the letter A corresponds with Honda of Marysville Ohio (it also says on the door sticker, "MFD. by Honda of America MFG., INC.")
Check these two out on Wikipedia, should help you figure the rest of your vin out:
