V6 Rdx ?

Wouldn't a V-6 be cheaper to build then a turbo therefore bring a lower cost alternative?

Interesting. I thought it was argued that Acura went with a turboed 4-cylinder because they couldn't fit a V6 into the engine block. So maybe they're referring to a few years from now when they do a complete redesign.

Maybe, maybe not. Just like the article says, "... a V6 MAYBE offered" I don't think it came down to cost of V6 vs a turbo, it was probably more that they didn't want to start the RDX out w/ the same engine as the MDX has.

Or they didn't want to spend time putting a V6 in, a the T4 is a great powerplant but in a car this expensive, the T4 should be option only, just for the simple fact of the bad perception of a T4cyl in a 30K+ luxoCUV.

No, No. It has to do with manufacturing across PLATFORMS! Remember, this is BASED on the CRV platform. Suspensions, engines, paneling, interiors, etc. are ALL different, but based on the same platform. I hate to say this, but those other things aren't even close to as expensive to a manufacture as designing & producing a similar platform to work for "different" cars / SUV's. Others do it. Like Infiniti. The G35x, (sedan) I had was the same platform as the FX35, (SUV!) It is the way of all manufacture's. THe engine idea was probably more about the marketing, not money. We are talking Honda. They make lots of money!

Not on the RDX! But really with a little development, they could have squeezed a V6 in.

Mileage better?

Would a V-6 that might fit in the RDX get better miles per gallon than the turbo?

Something to consider is that I think the current V-6 (J-series) engine is due for an update (aside from a displacement increase) so depending on what they have in store, it may have been easier to go I-4 turbo for now (sharing development costs with the CRV) and then introduce a new V-6 on a later update. TL and RL will both use the new V-6 so there may be a master plan to trickle this new engine to the MDX and RDX later on down the line. There may also be a plan to keep the V-6 out of the RDX to keep the distance with the MDX so anyone's guess is as good as mine.

If they went with the next generation A-Vtec with the 2/3/4 Variable Cylinder Management they have on their current J-series engines, better economy is probably possible, at least at highway speeds.
