Urgent oil question

I live in Canada and I've been trying to look for mobil 1 oil with hto-06 badged on it on the back. None can be found.

Can I just use the Mobil 1 syntheitc 5w30 off the shelf? I noticed in the DIY the guy used Truck and SUv oil, no one here ever heard of that type from mobil 1 (quaker state is the only that has that marketing scam here lol)

My understanding of the HTO-06 standard is that it is an Acura (Honda of America) R&D labs testing standard (my source says that the '06 stands for 2006 as the date for which this oil was tested and passed the HTO standard).

Since being awarded the Acura HTO-06 certification, recently produced (and labeled) bottles of Mobil 1 5W-30 have carried this certification on the label. However, Mobil 1 5W30's formulation is not different if this certification is not on the label of the bottle you find.

Here's some information about this from ExxonMobil's site:

Yes you can using Mobil1 5w-30 or pennzoil platinum 5w-30. Both are certified HTO-06.

While the "truck & SUV" formula of Mobil1 may be HTO-06 compliant, it has not been tested so it is not certified.

good to know thanks!. I also picked up a napa gold filter number 1356 (which is the one linked for the rdx in the napa system). It looks pretty darn small, is that normal?

I'm used the s2k filter on my other hondas which is pretty fat.

ya part source guy was pushing royal purple, it doesnt get big raves on BITOG, its a good track day oil but not a daily drivers oil.

Plus Acura Warranty won't cover me if the oil we use is not hto-06 certified (which at the moment only mobil 1 and penzoil platinum hold! argh amsoil hurry up!)

Hey mau108. I'm the "guy" that used the Mobil 1 "Truck & Suv" b/c my wife bought it by mistake. I didn't know it wasn't listed as Acura HTO-06 certified. I figured it was ok for 1 oil change & will go back to regular Mobil 1 5w-30, which is HTO-06 cert. Royal Purple is great syn. oil, but I don't think it's HTO-06 cert. yet, but I heard they are currently working on it!

I did my first oil change on the RDX today. Hands down the most accessable oil filter I've ever seen, vertically mounted less than a foot from the oil drain. All of my Acuras have had sensible filter location, but this is unbelievable. You can drain the oil pan and the filter at the same time.

I felt I should warn you guys who are considering alternative oil filters, though. There is an aluminum shroud around the oil filter with an inside dimension of 79 mm. Not sure how concentric the bore in the shroud is with the filter so likely the maximum filter O.D is 75 mm.
