Urgent Help with Buying Decision
Hi all,
We are looking to buy a certified used car. So we started looking and it has come down to the 2009 Rav4 V6 with 24,000 miles for around $22000.
The rdx is 2007 rdx tech with 21,000 for aroud 24,000. These are all internet dealer prices, not final. Both are certified.
I really like the acura, but my wife loves the rav4, she says its more economical in term of mpg and we are getting a newer car with the rav4 with a v6. compared to more $$$$$ for rdx little older etc.
What do you guys suggest. I also feel like the Rav4 is at advantage here. If I am wrong please correct me. I always wanted to get the MDX because I just love the MDX, so I also feel that if we buy the rdx I will have a buyers remorse. by the way not going for mdx is because of higher price.

I think that if your wife likes the Rav the decision has already been made... ![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The RDX is a gas guzzler, particularly if you consider the size and the engine being a 4 cyl (forget about the turbo part). There have been plenty of threads comparing Rav and RDX in terms of mileage, fit and finish, equipment, fun to drive, etc. I think that a pretty good summary is
- RDX more fun to drive
- RDX better equipped and definitely more luxurious
- RDX way more gas consumption
- RDX better AWD
- Rav is cheaper...way cheaper

hopefully the link will work, it's a comparison between the two in Edmuns.com

much as id like to make you both lean to the rdx, im afraid wife wins this round
. i had a similar situation as you. but in my case, i was leaning towards either rdx/q5/glk/cr-v. wife? at first she couldnt care less. then we test drove rdx and glk - wife liked rdx instantly. then test drove q5 - wife found both german vehicles to be bland. of course, rav 4 is diff fm rdx. but wife won out... oh btw, wife didnt like rav 4 as she found it not roomy enough just fyi...

Good luck on convincing the wife on the RDX. My wife liked the CR-V because it looked so "cute". I didn't want to drive a "Cute Ute" and I started to show her the benefits of the RDX compared to the CR-V.
The items that pushed her toward the 08 RDX w/tech was:
- Bluetooth with her iPhone (against the law in NM to talk on cell phone without hands free)
- XM radio/traffic/Navi/back-up camera/waaaay better stereo with sub woofer
- Memory seats that includes the side mirrors (she 4'11" and I'm 6'3")
- Brighter headlights
- 4 yr and 50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty (3yr/36,000 for the Honda maybe the same for Rav-4)
- One touch driver and passenger window open and close
- One touch sunroof open/close
- Cleaner lines, no spare tire hanging off the back
- Sporty looks (I have front spoiler, Ron Jon rims, rear diffuser, roof rack)
- Exclusivity, I see 1 or 2 RDXs a day compared to 15-20 CR-Vs and Rav-4.
- Gas mileage, I average 19-21 mpgs between fill-up with about 40% city driving.
- Upgrades, I added the Hondata reflash and K/N air filter for about 260-265 hp and 290-295 tq AND maintained the same average gas mileage.
- Fun to drive factor! She can drive the hell out of the RDX and the car loves it.
My wife was already use to the stiffer ride because of the TSX with A-spec suspension. The ride may also be a big turn off for the wifey on the 07 RDX compared to the Rav-4. The 08 RDX does have a little softer ride compared to the 07.
