Angry Ugh, 2007 a/c issue:-(

Hi,

I think my a/c is bipolar(lol). When it works it will freeze you out and when it doesn't you will roast. I am looking at other threads about replacing the field coil. Does replacing the field coil help with the other problems I'm having:

1) It may/may not work when first starting up. If it does come on, the full blast of cold air last anywhere from 5 mins to 45 mins, then the air blast will kick down and throw out warm air then hot. Sometimes I can tell when its getting ready to go to warm air cause it will smell funny and feel damp. After awhile it may/may not work again.

2)When its blasting out cold air and I turn down the fan, or change modes, it will blow out hot air.

3)It will blow out hot air after I turn it off.

Thanks for any replies

The fact that it sometimes works (and for 45 mins) is a good indicator that the freon is not the issue. Low or no freon at all would lead to no cold air at all.

Sounds like you have a pressure issue. Have a certified tech stabilize the pressure and I bet that solves the problem. Mine was doing this about a month ago.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be caused by a relay. Not sure which one, but both are located in the fusebox under the hood. There is a thread on here related to what I am alluding to, if I can find the old part I will repost.
I swapped the relays w the upgraded one and have not had an issue for about 6 months.

Check DIY A/C compressor clutch relay thread. My total out of pocket was about 30 bucks for both relays( 25, and 6)

From the DIY A/C compressor clutch relay thread, I'm clear about upgrading to relay 39794-SDA-A05. Which is the second relay you are referring to?

I am having the same issue. What number position in the fusebox was the relay replaced? Thanks in advance. I looked at position 25 and 6 and did not see to match the relay I have.
Thanks in advance.
