Traded the RDX

It was tough but I traded in my 07 Tech for a CX-9. We needed a bigger ride after the second boy came along. My wife wanted that intelikey thing so the CX-9 was pretty much the only choice at a good price. I got 21k for it with 42k miles. I could have got about a grand more but I opened my mouth and that number fell out. For the first time in 11 years a Honda/Acura will not be my daily driver. I need to get my EG on the road.

I am trying to step into the MDX but it's all about price. I am trying to keep the same monthly payment and I want an 08....so, there are no vehicles that match that with the mileage and price I want.
It would be nice if you post your impressions and issues with the CX-9 here, for us interested in trading in to know.
Congrats and Enjoy your new car.

Mike, just trying to understand what you're saying. I think you've come out strongly in favor of the Q5 over the RDX, so are you saying the MDX is similarly superior to the CX-9?

I wanted the MDX but the price with options was a no go for us. Plus my wife wanted that intelligent key feature. Somehow it has not made it to the MDX. Overall the CX-9 is a very nice vehicle. I got the grand touring w/Nav and few other options. One thing I will say is that the 20s are a must with this car. The ride is stiff but that's way better horribly light steering with 18s. The NAV will never compare to Acura's but it is well integrated in the '10. It will take some getting used to touch screen again.

A couple of other things that I have noticed over the last day are the seats. The RDX seats are much better. They have alot more support and are much softer. The transmission is never downshift when passing. I haven't been in a situation where I needed it to but I have done alot of passing in 6th gear. I think that if you are looking for a suitable alternative to the MDX for around the price of a RDX then the CX-9 is good.

I found a MDX/CX-9 comparison. Haven’t read through much of it though.

From the article you gave us...

"But would I spend an extra $10,000 for a 2009 Acura MDX with better legroom, more advanced AcuraLink technology and kick ass back seat entertainment system? Oh yeah, baby!"

If I had an extra 10k we would have a MDX. With the second little one it's time to save money.

I am just saying that I dont think we can compare any Mazda to any Acura.

Personally I would never spend 40K on a Mazda that in 2-3 years wont even be worth 40% of its MSRP.

Car and Driver were very pleased with their 08 CX-9, and 2010 CX-9 is even better with its refresh. I say good choice, and if I wanted something bigger, I'd also definitely consider the CX-9, especially since it looks better than the MDX. MDX is better overall, but I wouldn't pay 10 grand more, since I really dislike the rectangular running lights on the new MDX and TL.

If only Mazda and Honda could be compared....

You realize that we pay for a name when we buy Acura, not necessarily for the vehicle. Having said that the name gives you "perks", but still we are ridding Hondas...

i feel that the mazdas represent a solid bargain and good value opposed to the step up in the Acura...kinda of like if you moved up from the cx-9 - the mdx would be on your radar, as would be the Q5 from the RDX.

the cx-9, to my knowledge, has been a very likable, favorable vehicle. i question the quality of the brand because of the infusion of ford. therefor, id stay away from mazda...but that is only my experience tho, from what i saw break down in my cx-7. the parts were ford parts, thus, i stopped following mazda after my terrible experience with the cx-7

I do however like the CX-9, i think its prob mazdas best product..i have a few friends that own it, they seem to like it...i havent looked at it in a while but if mazda did their smiley cartoon face on the cx-9 like the 7, then i wouldnt give it a second look...i loved the looks when it first came out

I agree with you as far as the MDX but I don't see the the Q5 as a step up from the RDX. I would cross shop the Q5.

As far as quality that is one of the things that I have a slight worry about but I had a bad rear diff on my 07 RDX within the 4 months and every panel squeak on my 04 TSX.

the interior alone is a big step up...i feel the only reason why alot of people cross shop the Q5 is not for comparison reasons but to see what your dollar gets you, which is why most here opt for the RDX. Personally, the Q5 is to the RDX what the RDX is to the CRV imo. Its not a mega jump, but its a big one for most people.

Q5 >/= RDX
CRV < RDX

See the difference...?
