towing the rdx

in the unfortunate circumstance that the rdx awd vehicle needs to be towed, is there no alternative but to have it done on a flatbed truck?

the acura owners manual stated it as such but ive had a rented 4x4 towed with only 2 wheels up before (so maybe there's an alternative) - didnt really argue with the tow company then as it was a rental car.

on that note, some tow truck companies simply dont care at times, hence the question if one can insist on flatbed towing from the tow guys. knock on wood that this doesnt happen to any of us.

sorry for the double post: just a ff up question since im not well versed on the mechanical aspects of a vehicle -- wouldnt putting it in neutral solve this problem of towing (that is, put in neutral and you can tow in whatever way you want)?

The RDX is AWD and not 4x4. And a very sophisticated AWD system at that. As per the manual towing the RDX with only two wheels WILL damage parts of the SH-AWD system! Flat-bed towing only.

That just disengages the engine from the transmission.

The all wheel drive is always connected to itself.

you'd have to disconnect driveshafts, but even then you still might screw with the electronics and get warning indicators...

i hear ya guys. guess we have no choice but to insist on flatbed towing either from AAA/CAA or whoever. mental note to self: dont park on tow only zones - with these anonymous towers, the damage will most likely be worst than just the ticket/towing fee :P
