Tire Pressure Question

I see that recommended tire pressure is 32psi. Just got my RDX yesterday and the monitor is showing 35-37 cold. Should I leave it or drop them all down to 32? Anyone notice any differences?

Drop it to 32 cold. If you are running 35-37 cold now, they are probably getting up to around 40 when heated up. I'd use a tire presssure gauge to make sure the readings are correct....

Yeah, mine was the same way when I got it. I have heard they overinflate the tires at the factory for shipping. Anyone know why? It seems that in most cases the techs neglect to properly readjust the pressure during the pdi. I was expecting it so I readjusted the pressure the next morning.

It helps resist flatspotting of the tires as the vehicles sit on the lot.

I know -- I have been paying attention to some of the VINs on my local lot. Some of the older RDXs have probably developed a molecular bond between the tires and the pavement at this point! It's kind of sad.

P.S. - When I asked dealer why the TPMS alarm continually goes off, they said that cold weather is the culprit which I agree with. The resolution was that they stated the tires should be set at 3 lbs. higher. For my TL that means setting at 35 instead of spec. of 32 during cold months.

I think the better way to put it is set the tires to 32 psi cold for the coldest temperature you anticipate. I usually try to set my tires on a cold morning in the winter, and do add extra air if I anticipate even colder temps. I believe an extra 1 psi per expected 10 deg F drop is appropriate.

I researched the VIN numbers in the dealer inventory web page before going. They had one in the 7000 range and one in the 12000 range, so I made sure to get the newer one. Maybe there would be no difference between the 2, but at least I know the assemblers have gone through the motions an extra 5000 times.

Extremely wise. And you are exactly right...I have a theory that dash rattles and other imperfections get flushed out after about 10k units. I've seen it proven a few times.

I was hoping the color matching on the bumper paint might improve, but I have still seen mismatches on VINs in the 14,000 range. That's one of my minor heartburn issues with the RDX.

What color(s) are you interested in hunter? I haven't noticed any color mismatches just from casual viewing, but I haven't REALLY looked at the mismatch that you guys have mentioned. Is it that bad? Definitely no mismatch on the CGP but you guys said it is the brighter colors....

It's noticeable on all colors except black from what I have seen, but some much more than others. White and silver are the worst by far. Carbon gray and the other "middle" colors are not so bad, but the mismatch is there if you look for it. I blame the silver and white cars for making the problem stick out to me, and now I notice it on the other colors too!

I was most interested in silver, and may still go for that. Carbon gray and red are on my list too. I think if I could find a red/ebony base model I would go for it. I actually like the dark blue a lot, but don't have the fortitude to keep a dark car clean and looking good. Our current cars are silver and gold and hide all manner of dirt and scratches, which I appreciate.

How do you find carbon gray in general? Does it show dirt/scratches much?

You can definitely see dirt on CGP if you look for it, but from any distance it isn't very noticable. Definitely better than black in that regard, but that is stating the obvious. Its exactly what I expected in how it shows dirt, so no surprises.
