Standard Remote, Key Fob, or Smart Key

Does anyone know what type of key the RDX will have? I see that there will be an option for a smart key with the Mazda CX-7, and I believe Hondas have the remote control integrated into the key itself.

This is my best guess... look to the key set up all Acura's minus the RL has. I doubt Honda will pull a fob-in-key set up like the Accord and Civic.

If and this is a big if Acura does go with Keyless Access then the RDX will have one feature over the current MDX.

I'd look to the MDX to offer Keyless Access as well as the Auto headlights the RDX concept lacked.

I would say smart key. The idea behind smart key is to control emissions during start up.

Could you expand on this?

my prediction is that all acura by 07-08 will come with i-key as standard.
It may not be on the first model year of the RDX but expect it sometime, (my guess)

In what way? The emissions? I had read an article stating that the electronic controlled ignition controls emissions during startup. Nothing else I can really expand on.

You have the 05 RL right? I believe it is also listed in the owners manual. I don't have it anymore, but find it and report back

The electronic ignition emission control is in all recent year Honda cars are like this, including my 02 TL.

The question here is about whether or not the RDX will have a key and remote (like the TL/TSX/RDX/MDX) a key/remote in one combo (Accord and new Civic) or the Keyless Access system of the RL. It really has nothing to do with ignition, how the car starts, or emissions control on startup.

And I said that I believe it will come with the same smart access system as the RL and my reason was because of the electronic controlled emission. I didn't know the other cars without smart access had it.

I just hadn't heard that there was a side benefit to the electronic ignition in the RL. Just to be clear (if I'm understanding you correctly). This is the function that takes over starting the car once you twist the starter. It's unlike an older car where if you turn the key "just a bit" and then stop, the starter motor stops too. In the RL once you reach a point on the "key" the car takes over and cranks the car till it's running. Its kind of strange cause it feels slightly "disconnected" (which it is); you're going through the usual motions, but the car is doing it itself.

If we're talking about the individual coils over the spark plugs and calling this "electronic ignition" then yes, the older cars have had this, roughly since '99 on the TL and since the K series of 4 cylinder engines. However, these will not take over the starting proceedure like in the '05+ RL.

I doubt the RDX will have the Keyless Access System from the RL, I think this will be reserved for the new MDX. There is a concerted effort on Acura's part to develop a "good, better, best" feeling to the sedan lineup and I see this continuing for the RDX/MDX.

I doubt it. In my opinon all Acura's with Navi systems should have OnStar as a feature.

But who knows.

Hey Colin, what are the odds of getting the computer controlled starter system on non-keyless ignition cars? That is one feature that I would love to see become standard throughout the line-up.

I have no idea, I suppose it depends on why its there? If it is indeed for emissions control, I'd guess its a good possibility. It is kinda funky "feeling" though.

But Honda/Acura sometimes does wierd things like put a better nav in the 06 TSX than the 06 TL. You could almost argue the 06 Civic Nav is better then the 06 TL Nav. Smart Key will be available on the 07 Camry for heavens sake. Okay maybe the XLE but that is still cheaper than a TSX and RDX.

But you might assume since that is a pretty significant feature, if the prototype didn't have it, neither will the production car. Maybe you'll get it on the next Accord before you get it on the RDX

Well the TSX navi is more of an exception than a rule. I'm guessing that the original sales goals were 20,000 per year and they've done about 30,000. They made a contract with Alpine to supply 20,000 x 4 years worth of navi units. They've fufulled this commitment so they were free to upgrade the units to the newer ones.

2006 Honda Civic (european model)... push button start...

worse yet... if Honda sold this car in the US I'd buy it tomorrow. I wonder if Acura would ever sell this as an RSX? I realize the RSX may not be continued, but tweek this car to Acura levels and it would be sweet.
