Snowboard Roof Rack

Hi All,

I wanted to ask if anyone knows a good inexpensive roof rack for Snowboards?
My RDX does not have the factory rails and was wondering if there is anything out there that doesn't require the factory rails to put on this rack.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I'm considering a non-oem rack as well. I have heard that the OEM Acura roof rack creates a lot of wind noise. So I would rather avoid having the wind noise in the summer time so I can remove the roof rack. I need a rack for both skis and snow boards, possibly going to eventually go with a Thule, or Yakima cargo box. Let me know if anyone has tried non-oem roof racks and what your thoughts are.

Yakama Fat Cat 4 (4 skis + 2 boards)-$498

We run the factory rack with 2 RockyMounts for bikes which was about the same price as the Yak Rack, but comes with a warranty from the factory FWIW. You can take the factory rack off the rails by removing 4 bolts and have virtually no wind noise.

Without rails you must use a Yakama "Q" system which WILL leave 1x2" marks on the surface on the paint (no matter how often you take it off for cleaning). I have used both the Yakama "Q" and "Rail Grab" and they are great products and handle more wieght than the A-spec rack.

Does that Yakama Q system works without the factory rails? Where does that bolt onto the roof? (The black line section that goes from the front to the rear of the roof top on each side?

Do you have a trailer hitch? If so, you can get a hitch mount carrier for under $200. That would be cheaper than getting an entire mount and rack setup.

Your best bet is to go with the Acura roof rack and a Yakima and Thule ski rack. You can remove the crossbars in the offseason to reduce wind noise as Marco had said. I have the FatCat6 installed on mine with the factory roof rack.

Does that Hitch Mount Carrier comes with the pole and rack to mount onto my towing hitch?

Here is the picture of my hitch with the ball.
All I have to do is take that part out and install the hitch mount carrier correct?

Also can you send me a link on the whole setup - I am googling it and is coming up with all sorts of results.

Many thanks.

ah, sorry, it looks like you need the bike rack attachment too. damn, i hate how each piece for those rack systems are separate. it might still be cheaper than buying a roof rack assembly though.

You can get a Yak system to work with the factory rails, or without any rails.

Hitch systems make getting into that hatch a pain in the ass (you would be surprised how often you open and close that hatch). Just get a roof system.
