Considering the downpipe for my 2011 RDX. I have installed and reinstalled the TMIC multiple times, the Hondata heatshield gasket, and the lowering springs and progess sway bar all by myself. I have read multiple threads which says the downpipe can be installed by snaking it from the top, though others were not able to do this and were cutting the old CAT's and stuff to get the old one out. Need opinion on complexity of the install compared to what I have already done. It is a Florida car, so there is not much rust on the bolts to get through. I am considering the RV6 with the magnaflow CAT if that makes a difference. Guess my question is, is the difficulty in the job getting the old one out, and what key pointers are there to make that happen if I am doing it solo? Thanks all. If I can do that, I feel I can finally utilize the Hondata Flashpro tuning part to complete the build.

 

Anyone with a DIY on the RV6 downpipe install? You all aren't going to make me go about this alone. I don't want to take the axle off and all that stuff, if there is another simpler way of doing it. I realize I am late to the party here. Thanks!

 

Yes it can be done by yourself. I "snaked" it down from the top. Biggest thing is to have patience with it and set aside 3-4 hours for the job.

 

Thanks allmotorap2. 3 to 4 hours doesn't seem too bad. Even if it takes me longer, I get the satisfaction of knowing I am working on my own car with utmost care. I just didn't want to get to a point where I am stuck removing something and can't put it back together. It took me three tries to get my rear springs out. Heck, it took me two times to get my Hondata heat shield gasket installed. Now that was a job getting all those bolts out and back on. I am still surprised it works. Will probably order the RV6 this weekend, so I can tackle in January. Most likely will still be coming here for advice when I run into problems.

 

Waiting on a price quote from Heeltoe on this. Another question on ordering one with the high flow cat by Magnaflow or not? Realize that having the cat may decrease performance somewhat, but that is ok since I am not trying to make this the baddest thing out there. So with that said, if I order one with the cat, and then sell the car in three years, is it "legal"? Or is everyone who puts this RV6 on, then going to take it off and replace it with the OEM when they decide to sell their car. At a certain point, there is not going to be a secondary market for the RV6 downpipe anymore as the cars get to be 10-15 years old. But, I don't want to make my car illegal on the secondary sale market. Thanks for your opinions in advance.

 

Your car will stop to be street legal the moment you put RV6 downpipe whether with a high-flow cat or not. Originally there are two cats in place and a high-flow cat will replace just the second one.

 

Thanks Proto. So what does everyone do that has modified their car to the point that it is not street legal, if they are going to eventually sell it down the road? I know some people have put the OEM items back on cause they want to recoup some of the aftermarket cost. But say you have a 2007 RDX and it is 2022 - so 15 years old. Are you going to take off the RV6 downpipe and try to resell it, or just leave it on since it has been on for 10 years. I live in Florida so there is not an emissions test required, so I am not worried about that. However, I believe if you trade your car in, you pretty much sign something that states that you have not done any repairs that puts it in a operable condition outside federal law guidelines. Along the lines of full disclosure I believe. Maybe I am overthinking this, but just looking for opinions on what people normally do with modifications at the end. Maybe they save all the OEM parts and put them all back on. Thanks.

pull the intercooler off and pull the heat shields. there is a lower torque mount that you can take out to get the motor to tilt some. you'll take the down pipe apart in to two sections primary cat secondary cat. pull the O2 sensors free of their connectors. get some new hardware just in case. theres other stuff but i cant remember.
