Rough downshifting shifting from 5 to 4 gear

Whenever my transmission downshifts from 5th to 4th gear vehicle jerks. This doesn't happen with other gears. For example, I'm slowing down from 50mph to 30 and I can feel the change from 5 to 4. Car has 50,000 miles and I have done all required maintenance according to the computer at dealer.

Have you done a complete fluid flush? Something like that sounds like it could have to do with crappy fluid/buildup/etc.

DW-1, flush, did that to mine going down hill without gas it'll engine brake in 3rd on a 20-30%. I just have to remember to up-shift when it does that.

That engine brake is normal it's Acura grade logic control. My problem is only with rough shifting from 5th to 4th. Acura did my transmission service so I wouldn't know if it was flushed. Wouldn't dirty fluid affect more gears?

Now that I read your thread I recal some recent rough shifts in the RDX from 5th-4th also. For a second it seemed something like bad gas studder. I will pay more attention and report back (as I'm also at 50k). Will for sure do a tranny flush at 60k.

If it's rough now, why wait another 10K?

Do transmission drain and fill 3 times in a row (driving in between). I've been doing mine every 25K (just 1 drain and fill) since we purchased the vehicle as I'm not confident in Honda's automatic transmission (not following MID codes for transmission and rear diff I just do it every 25k). Transmission shifts are flawless (up and down!)

07 with ~81,000KM.

Good point. I need to pay closer attention as ironically I just noticed it the other day. RDX had been sitting in the garage for over a week while we were on vacation, so that needs consideration too.

Ok but again rough shifting only from 5 to 4 suggests a different problem than dirty fluid. Aren't gears 5 and 4 on different clutch packs? If it was rough all around the gears then it would have definitely been the fluid.

Not necessarily, there could be some buildup obstructing the fluid passages or valves for only specific gears.

Drove without incident today. Not sure why this would be a temporary issue but I will pay close attention for a week and see if it reoccurs.

drove the car hard today and after just a few minutes rough shifting from 5 to 4 gear was back. i took out for a spin at night with no improvement. noticed higher than usual rpm in 5th gear for sometime. now i'm worried and pissed off, this feels like a torque converter issue to me.

Mine has been doing this as well. At speeds of 45mph the transmission shifts into 5th gear flawlessly. When traveling at highway speeds & letting it coast, it'll do a slight jerk while downshifting into 4th gear. Have you ever fixed this problem? I'd like to know if there are any ways to fix this.
