Road Trip
Road Trip
So after trading my Audi S4 in on the RDX in December of this year I've stayed pretty much in town sans a few 150 mile trips for business. My mileage before that was about 17 in the city and 19-20 on the highway (usually cruising at about 82-83). The weather was also very cold at times -27 was the coldest, but the temp was usually in the teens.
Anyway I hit the open road for spring break and headed from my home state of Montana, down to lake Tahoe and finally to Santa Cruz. Overall I was very impressed with the vehicle on the highway. Passing was great on two lanes and it held hills pretty good. I think the transmission might try and hold onto fifth gear a little much on very long steep grades a couple of times I felt the car struggling with full boost to maintain 80 mph in 5th. If I paddled it down it seemed to drop back to 5th again within about 10-15 seconds. I know I could have dropped it into S but I really didn't see the point.
MPG has definitely improved since I bought it and improved with the tire pressure. Starting cold from MT my tires are always at 31-32 psi. After cruising in the 70 degree weather at 80 mph or so the tires usually reached 37-38 psi and that’s where the best mileage came from. My overall for the 2500 mile trip was 22.3 mpg with a tank best of 25.3 during the last leg of the trip.
It was a fun trip and the RDX didn't disappoint.
On a related subject, what PSI are you guys at when you first start up in the AM, and what is the temp usually at where the car is stored overnight? Mine is about 31-32 psi and 40 degrees.
