RDX vs. X3
RDX vs. X3
Hi,
I didn't get a chance to log into this forum for quite sometime, and when I did log in today, I was a bit surprised to see almost no comparison between RDX ('07) and X3 ('06/improved '07), which I believe is RDX's stiff competitor (at least that's what Acura claims IMO).
So, dear RDX owners, first of all congratulations ! Now, may I request you to please pour in your thoughts about opting for RDX because I am sure you must have tried X3 before going ahead with your RDX purchase.
Cheers,
- Jyoti
PS. BTW, I am not sure if the re-freshed '07 X3 is out in the market yet.

I was just at the dealesrhip to check it out. No brochures to look at, so I just sat in the floor model.
From the drivers seat the dash, instrumentation looks impressive.. very luxurious.
But I noticed it's snug up front.. and the back is definitely smaller than an X3. Perhaps it's because the front row seats look like La-Z-Boys.. they're pretty damn thick. Also, I don't know if it would be a problem later, but the buttons on the console are very very small...

Those were the two that I considered for my next vehicle. I decided one day to take them both for a test drive starting with the RDX. I never made it to the BMW dealership because the RDX had everything I was looking for. I prefer the overall build quality and ride of the X3, but I felt that I could get a lot more for my money with the RDX, especially considering that it costs less, gets slightly better mileage and has more user friendly controls. Out of all the brands I've seen Honda/Acura has done the best job of integrating technology into their cars.
I considered and test drove an X3 prior to buying my 05 TL. Really good driving experience but that was it. Base model with vinyl was small and very cheap looking. By the time you added options to make it acceptable, it was way to expensive. Any Acura would provide a higher value based on interior and features.
I am on record as not being a fan of the RDX mostly because of engine choice and price. That said, between the two in most cases it would still be the RDX I think. Understand that I am probably not in the target market for either vechicle.

i looked at the x3, for about 1 minute. thats all it took the thing is junk compared to the rdx. the leather is cheaper feeling, the car doesnt feel air tight like the rdx, and the interior styling is so blah. that car is out for me thats for sure.

RDX's value
I have driven the RDX twice and made a downpayment for pearl white/taup/tech unit to be delivered at the end of Sept. The factors for my decision were price (both initial and maintanance), value (cost of options in X3 vs standards in RDX). I have had 3 series BMW, Lexus es300, Subaru Forrester, Honda Element, Suburban among others. This car drives like a dream (plenty of power all throughout the range of RPM, solid handling that can be compared to the feeling like it is on a rail, just right amount of road feed-back, supportive seats). Some complaint of poor mileage but the jury is still out on that since others have mentioned that Honda's MPG generally settles to higernumber after break-in period. The sound system is awesome with easy of control, although those audio control buttons were bit small. No need to talk about Nav system in Honda. Only concern that I had initially was the durability of the turbo-engine. But that then it is Honda/Acura. Honestly,I have not driven X3 but the very fact that almost every thing that comes standard in RDX is an option in X3 turned me off and all those complaints that I have heard over the years about how expensive it is to maintain BMW did not give me any motivation to visit the dealer.
Planning to visit CA in the winter so I will update any impression afterwards

rdx is worth every penny unlike over-priced x3
I am not bashing on bmw because I like bmw and also have 04 530
But I think x3 has no chance of compete with rdx.
with 36K rdx is fully loaded but for x3 36k is where you start.
oh No, get X3! I dont want lot of rdx on the road. =)

I didn't even test drive the X3. After sitting in one at the auto show and looking at the starting price before options, it wasn't even a consideration after that. Nothing specific, but like others have said, the interior just didn't seem as nice to me and I couldn't justify the additional cost to myself.
