RDX vs Rav4 (redesigned)
I just bought a RDX without checking other compatible cars.
Saw lot of Rav4 on the street in Toronto, I am just wondering what are the list of items that RDX is better than Rav4. Can everyone add on to the list here ? (I just want to make myself feel better )
Note: In Canada, a non-tech RDX is only CAD4,000 more than a Rav4 V6 Limited
I only notice that Rav4 beats RDX on gas mileage and higher horsepower

Did you buy the base RDX or Tech Package? I live in Thornhill and have Tech package
You get more luxury (leather seats, HID, etc.)
More tech (SH-AWD, Turbo, etc.)

Yes, one of the major reasons I got the RDX is SH-AWD, the Acura brand and reliability (hopefully this brand new turbo engine is also reliable as other Honda's engine). But the gas mileage is kind of disappointing. I thought it would be better on a V4 engine and it is a Honda engine .........

I got the base model as I have the GPS and bluetooth already. Only thing I might need from the tech package is the rear camera (which you might get it aftermarket as well)
If I live in US, I definately will get the tech. And RDX is a lot cheaper in US. In fact, the exchange for RDX is not bad already, it is only 1.24. For other car, like Cayanne, it is over $1.5. They are paying 30-40% more for the same car ! (provided current exchange rate is only USD1 to CAD1.1)

Yes, I like the ride on RDX so far. But haven't been in a Rav4, so can't really compare. Maybe I should just go to a Toyota dealer and try it. But I guess as soon as they see my RDX, they know I am not a serious buyer there

I tested the RAV4 a couple of times before deciding on the RDX. The RAV4 is a really nice vehicle. It's got that six-cylinder engine and it weighs 400-500 pounds less than an RDX which gives it a nimble feel. But I'd never try to push it hard in the corners -- it's just nor designed for that.
If a well-equipped RAV4 gives you the features you want, it'll save you a few thousand -- I think the MSRP of a loaded 2006 RAV4 was something like $30k. But if you want sports car handling and/or some extra luxury touches and you've got the bucks, the RDX is a great choice.

Yes, another reason I chose RDX was that Rav4 is a lot cheaper in US than in Canada. I forgot to even factor the sales tax. 14% for people in Ontario as compare to the % in US (range from zero in Oregon to the highest 8.25%). So, for some cars model in Canada, we could be paying 50% more than people in US (with exchange rate and sale tax difference). We really got ripped off !!!!

Here in BC, the RAV4 V6 Ltd is $38,340.00 + $1,390.00 F/PDI = $39,730.00 + taxes. No dealer will negotiate much on the price, even though they deny the "Access Toyota" price fixing scheme still exists. On the Rav4World forums one fellow contacted every dealership in the province and none would budge, and he ended up buying in Alberta and driving his RAV4 back.
In contrast, the RDX is $41,000.00 + $1,430.00 F/PDI = $42,430.00 + taxes. In a few months, the lots will be full of them and the dealers will start to discount. Let's say one gets a fairly reasonable 7% discount... then you are looking at $39,560.00 + taxes, which would be LESS than what you would pay for the RAV4 (unless you make a trip to Alberta).
The RAV4 has:
a) lots more cargo space and adjustable back seat
b) better acceleration (no turbo lag)
c) better braking
d) better fuel economy
e) non-premium gas requirement
f) probably a more durable engine (but who is really going to drive either of these vehicles into the ground?)
It lacks:
a) HIDs
b) tailgate and hidden spare tire
c) that huge compartment in the front which is great for putting a handbag
d) Homelink remote system
e) 18" wheels
f) the "fun to drive" factor
I don't think one could make a wrong decision with either, but about the same price, I think it's a no-brainer...
