RDX versus Crosstour?

Honda announced pricing for the 271 HP (Regular Gas?) Crosstour today. An EX-L AWD/Navi is $36,200. If your had your druthers would you go with the RDX or Crosstour?

IMO, the new Crosstour is like the uglier version of the ZDX

Most people would go for the RDX, since the crosstour is one of the fugliest vehicles you can buy new today.

Other than the Honda front grill looks too large, I think the Crosstour looks better that the ZDX.

The Honda Crosstour has pretty much every feature, dimensions, and price the RDX has with the addition of:
-3.5L V-6 that uses regular gas,
-better mpgs and,
- VCM cylinder deactivation.

You can see what type of power and mpgs the RDX would have if it had the 3.5L V-6. (271 hp/ 254 lb/tq, 18/27 2wd, 18/25 awd, all with a 5AT and regular gas).

I think the ZDX folks should be worried because you can purchase the Crosstour for +$10,000 less and have the same exact vehicle.

Looks like Acura is trying to copy GM/Ford and sell the same vehicle in different divisions. It makes Acura look like a trim level upgrade instead of an unique luxury/performance model.

Honda Crosstour = Acura ZDX
Chevy Suburban = GMC Yukon = Caddy Escalade
Ford Flex = Lincoln MKT

Only the Crosstour isn't based off the ZDX.

I don't know what the ZDX or Crosstour is based off; but, both vehicles look alike. I would have to take Crosstour for a test drive before deciding on purchasing a RDX or ZDX.

Honda Crosstour

Acura ZDX

Not sure what to think about the big picture, but I can tell you I think the RDX looks better than both.
A couple things I wish the RDX had were the 'lower level' storage in the hatch and the better cupholders! Maybe the newer IPOD interface too, but will that be possible for us with a navigation upgrade later??

cross tour would be another one to see in person before i make an opinion...the motortrend review is much more favorable than C&D, and i think is a more neutral review too.....saying the honda is lexus like in many ways, extremely quiet, refined, peppy, and there seems to be alot of engine/computer tuning going on in the cross tour (like rev matched downshifting, holding gears in corner) which MT was very favorable on.

Id love to see it in person, i like the stamped runners, gives it a very aggressive and classy touch.

in the end tho...i think this is an apples oranges comparo...but Honda has stepped up its ex-l interiors, and imo, surpass lower level acuras (i prefer the cross tour/accord interiors vs the RDX/TSX)....Loop carpeting in the honda is a real nice touch, and the interior seats look like butter

The Crosstour is supposed to be in the showrooms on 20 November. How, and why, in the world did Honda get a brand new CUV in the showrooms before Acura could get the ZDX and MMC MDX out? Anyone shopping for a car-based CUV is not going to wait until December and buy the ZDX for $10-15K more after they see the Crosstour.

thats usually how its always been tho

CRV-->RDX
ACCORD-->TSX

the only one i can think of they debuted first was the MDX before the Pilot.

The crosstours has a pretty good looking interior. I like it better than the current RDX.

the back seat 'walk-through' area has a hump that the RDX doesn't....

Normally, I like the humps, but not back there.

BTW - CR-V does not EQUAL RDX...It's not even close. The platform wasn't even closely based on it.
And as for TSX ...it's the EUROPEON ACCORD. Not or the ORIGINAL ACCORD.
The one desigend is for US based here.
As for the CROSSTOUR...what your missing compared to ZDX -

NO BLUETOOTH,
NO HID HEADLAMPS.
NO PARANOMIC SUNROOF

So pretty mch, you lose out.

I saw a crosstour on the road yesterday. It was probably a dealer demo to educate the sales reps, because I don't think they're really available yet. The back doesn't look as bad in motion as it does in person, but the front is still huge. I don't think I'd consider one because it's not as practical as a true wagon or SUV thanks to that chopped off roof line.

so paying $10K to $20K less for the crosstour, skimping those couple things equals losing out?

In one of the detailed pics at honda.com, the lower display shows 'handsfreelink'...to me, that says bluetooth. Given how everyone is including bluetooth now, I'd be pretty surprised if the Crosstour didn't have it.

edit: Just went back and checked. The site clearly says it has bluetooth, and the pic even shows the bluetooth icon. From everything I can see, the Crosstour interior looks more luxurious than my RDX. I wonder if it has the GPS linked HVAC. I guess more reading is in order.

Mike

and I'm sure there's much, much more.

I'm no fan of the ZDX but saying that the only advantages it has over the Crosstour are HID's and a panoramic sunroof is skewing the facts to say the least. Its an entirely different platform.

Why would one buy a crosstour instead of a venza of youre in the market for that kind of vehicle? Venza doesnt look ugly and it's more practical and has more features

how can you possibly compare the level of the ZDX product to the cross tour. come on guys. its night and day. albeit they are similar entries (design/function/etc) but in no way would i make a decision on the fact that the cross is a better economical choice than the ZDX. Thats like saying instead of the 7 series i bought the Hyundai. hey similar size, cargo, features right?? lol no.

im not dumping on the cross....i really like it, its a great package at a decent price, although one wonders why you would go for this vs the pilot other than the vehicle type preference. Pilot is more capable, at least it should be, and decked out you are at the same price. Pilot gives you alot more versatility for the money. But for non truck people in the honda family...i think this is a really solid option for the people who dont want the volvo wagon, or benz audi stuff...this adds a nice twist in the market...and it will sell, its a honda.

That isn't very promising, considering how ugly the ZDX is. I don't understand the new trend in 'hatchbackifying' every car: ZDX, Crosstour, Porsche Panamera. All these cars just look ungainly at the rear and the rear visibility is horrible. I think that BMW X6 is the only car to pull off this look with any modicum of success.

The front of the Venza is hideous, IMO. Looks like an awkward teenager with a mouthful of braces. I cringe every time I see it.

However, the front of the Crosstour is also ugly.

Neither is a particularly attractive vehicle.

The only show stopper with Venza, the grille, can be easily fixed:

It has HID's and a couple of other features not available in the accord, not to mention at least it looks good in the back.

dunno how we can all judge looks without seeing in person. the cross tour is tending to be one of those cars, same as the ZDX

That's not fixed enough for me. Sure, it lost the sea of chrome on the grille, but it's still got a huge awkward looking schnoz. No thanks.

Personally if the redesigned rdx still has thepower plenum and still ugly my next car will be the BMW x1. It and the q5 are the only decent looking and sporty driving crossovers

The Venza is actually a great car to drive. I was pretty impressed by it. I can't convince someone to like the styling, but I like it.
