RDX Pricing Question

OK, I am in the market for an RDX. My first car purchase after hard work and savings. I want every dollar to work for me here, so please bear with me. I am not a "greedy" person, I just want the absolute best deal that my money can get me.

I want to purchase a 2007 base model (non Tech) - no options. Reasoning? I basically want to be able to leverage the best price possible and don't really care about the newer 2008 model. Well, truth be told, I am new to buying cars (this will be my first purchase). As I understand things now, I should be able to negotiate from invoice price (which is listed on Edmunds.com as being 30,271).

Given that dealers are moving the '07s out, how much should I figure I can reasonably expect to get below this invoice price? 500? Do you think I'll be able to bargain for more than 500?

I'm in California so sales tax is 7.25%. So help me with my math here, and make sure I am doing this right. Let's assume I can negotiate 500 off the invoice, leaving a base price of 29,771.

Having shopped around for other cars, I've noticed that most out the door prices roughly come out to a 10% add on from the base price (e.g. sales tax, license, title, etc.)

So, an out the door price should come to a grand total of: roughly 32,750

I also understand that there is currently a $1,000 cash rebate on 2007 models in order to move the inventory. Is it reasonable to assume that I can then shave off $1,000 from that OTD price, leaving me with a final price of:

31,750

Is this a fair assumption? Am I being too unrealistic? Am I not being aggressive enough? (e.g. do you think an offer of $31,500 flat out the door is too unrealistic)?

Thoughts, advice, suggestions, would all be appreciated.

Many thanks.

start off getting some quotes from dealers online...don't know where you are in Cali but we bought from Acura of Concord (Nor Cal) and got a great deal below invoice.

many dealers have quite a few on the lot so you should be able to get what you're asking.

get quotes from other dealers on a 20 mile radius...and tell them to match the lowest.

Got the tech pack 1k below. 33100 before tax and license. 2008 is rolling in, and 2007s should be easy to deal with. Get the tech version; it is worth it, IMO.

What is this rear cargo cover you mention? The same rear cargo cover we all got or something else?

For a 07? That's $1,600 lower than I can find on the 08s around here. Where is the info on the rebate? I didn't see it on Edmunds.

well we paid 33,000 for the car and then probably saved about another 500 in accessories and paid 1600 for an 8yr/120,000 miles extended w/ no deductible.

we purchased the roof rack, front underbody spoiler, rear diffuser (does nothing noticeable for the car either) cargo tray, all-weather mats, wheel locks, mud guards and my dealer put on door edge guards.

I'm pretty sure invoice at the time was 33,600...might have been more.
