Toyota has more models of SUVs than does Honda. So giving the RAV4 a bigger engine seems silly to me. If you want a bigger engine/more power/more room get the Highlander or 4Runner. By increasing the engine size etc, you are going to increase the price of the RAV4 right outta Entry-Level status.

 

I dont think the CR-V needs a V6 engine right now, maybe as an option. It definitely needs a power boost. The TSX should get a V6 option plus SHAWD.

 

i hope honda doesn't put a K24 on that big boat. it'll automatically be off my upgrade list.

 

don't forget, rumors say the MDX will have a 3.8L producing 300+ HP. I think a 250 hp 3.0L V6 would be great for the RDX. Rev it up to 6800 like the TL and you have a winner with plenty of pop.

I believe now that Honda has the technology, the TL should get an optional 3.5L, 300 HP SH-AWD package. However, Acura doesn't give you many options, so maybe making the 300 HP 3.5L + SH-AWD standard would be a way to give the TSX a 3.0L 240-250 HP engine. The RL can get a 3.8-4.0L V6 capable of 330-350 HP. But what many don't see is the beauty of the TSX's k24 (although it is under a lot of load) is that it is fun to play with. Would a TSX with a V6 handle as well with a k24 TSX. Then again, I guess the SH-AWD would help with handling, too. If IMA comes to Acura soon, then there is no need for a 6 in the TSX (not that there is already, it is very competative right now). But, let's just say IMA is NOT an option for some reason, then I can see why the future TSX would need a V6 to stay competative. But the V6 is one reason why the TL is priced higher than the TSX in my opinion. Just my :twocents:

Why not put the K24 in the next RSX (assuming there is one). When the TSX first hit our shores, Honda of Japan showed a concept Accord for their home market. The heading read, "Beyond Type R". It showed the Accord with the K24 paired with IMA. That car produced close to 300hp.

The question isn't if Honda will produce such a car, but when and will they see the US as a market for a factory hot rod.

Hey, they're working their tails off with the RDX especially since they JUST released their Halo sedan, the RL.

 

The RAV4 can already be priced out of entry level status. Our RAV4 had an MSRP of around 26K...and it's not even the L model.

 

Got back from Detroit Monday...just got home from a 12 hr work day and I need to get up tomorrow morning at 4:30am...so Im too puked to type out a summary of the past weekends rumors and news. But Thursday I will get on it. TSX, RDX, RSX and more....

No I agree with most of what you are saying.

The TL will probably be the first car other than the RL to get IMA and SH-AWD. The TSX will probably receive a power boost of some sort and IMA but no SH-AWD.

 

True it is an expensive "entry level" SUV. I guess the Scion xB is the new "entry level" SUV for Toyota.

I'm excited for the RDX, no question about it. I think Honda has proven that they know how to get SUVs right on the first shot, hopefully this will continue the trend.

I also have in the back of my mind a comment Justin made a long long time ago, "this is not the only version of the TSX we'll see" (or something to that effect).
Here's hoping we'll get a little more insight into what that means.

Please fill us in on any suspension observations too. I'm wondering if this will be built alongside the Accord and TL if it will have the front double wishbone setup. I think the CRV struts would compromise its ultimate handling capabilities.

Somehow I bypassed my company's firewall and are able to log on to the site. Haven't been able to do that the past couple of weeks.

Anyways let me keep the post short and not get into the details you all have already seen or read about.

Some of what was written in the past no longer are valid for the present..such as IMA. Remember when the original RDX concept came out, Acura had stated the powerplant was a 200hp 2.4 liter paired with a 50hp IMA system. Sadly that configuration is no longer the case. Of course it is very diffcult to get people to talk freely about future developments and this was also to be the case. So some of the information may not be 100% correct. You will just have to form your own conclusions.

RSX... indeed may be nearing its end. MY2005 production has already been reduced by almost 25% over MY2003. Word is the RSX will no longer be imported to NA when the current cycle ends. Due to end MY07.

TSX... TSX wagon or coupe is not going to happen anytime soon if at all. Neither will there be any type of IMA system. 6 speed manual may be discontinued in the near future. Due to low demand. In its place possible CVT and SMG type transmissions.

RDX...

RDX...will be based on an all new light truck platform also the basis for the new CRV. The RDX will be the same length (181") as the current CRV. The RDX will be to the CRV what the MDX is to the Pliot. Suspension will be double wishbone front and rear. Standard 17" all season tires.

RSX: I'm surprised to hear that Honda is closing in on the RSX. I don't follow much about this vehicle, but it seems to have sold very well in the Toronto's area. I mean, I see them everywhere.

I think the HUGE story on the RDX really is gonna be the engine. I think we can all be sure that it will be 5AT only? So it really boilds down to if Acura is gonna put a juiced K24 or some form of V6 ... gonna be a long wait on that one is my guess. Justin ... need me to wire you some money for a lunch with some of your pals in Torrence?

 

Thanks for the update Justin. It's too bad about the RSX and no IMA in the RDX, but I welcome a new transmission in the TSX. Way to leave us on a cliff hanger with the "new Luxury sedan" and HSC.

My prediction: when the RSX dies, Acura will have the rumoured TL coupe/ 2 seat Roadster ready to go.

THe length may be the same but the current CRV's specified length includes the rear mounted tire (CRV SE is listed as .8 inches longer due to tire cover).

SO...I guess the new light truck platform is a few (5-7") longer since the RDX does not have the exterior spare??
