Since I have been using the navi for only a few weeks, I can definitely tell you that the map guidance will not tell you the best way to get to a destination. Knowledge of traffic and fastest route that we use on a daily basis will never be instilled into any computer or GPS system. However the navi has options that you can choose, most direct, using hiways, avoiding hiways, etc... The Navi on my RDX is defaulted to direct route and it will go thru some strange places to get me to a destination that I would't use normally. I did try it just for a test and it truly was shorter - by a few km's - although I think the time differential was a bit more than usual.
So, in the states, I would say that the same is true. The Navi would get you there in the shortest distance but not necessarily in the shortest time - unless you have the XM real time traffic subscription.. which I would love to try out but can't cuz I'm in Canada. Is a bummer !!!

Has anyone from Canada got the XM Traffic to work? I'm determined to get this to work...what is different from the US version? XM Canada is now doing the XM Traffic feeds in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.

Carbon Bronze Pearl 2008
I'm not in Canada but I got the base 2008 so I have the bluetooth which is cool. I just use a portable GPS when needed which is not often, and the "base" stereo is actually quite good! I wouldn't mind the ELS but not at an extra $3000+ cost. And backup camera? Give me a break.
