Rdx mpg

Just took a long trip(200 miles), speed is about 75-80 mph, the MPG is about 26 as displayed on board. This car's best mileage looks like on 60-70 mile/hour.

My other car BMW 2000 528i usually can get about 28.5 mile/h at same trip.

IMO the RDX is heavy and the Acura Turbo is not very efficeint. I'd liek to see how the new Hyundai Turbos stack up.

You want to see the Acura being efficient, keep it above 4-5K RPMS and you will see.....

pretty good mileage...I have to agree that the car does it's best between 60-70 (truly 65 is the sweet spot if you ask me) on fuel economy.

I would think you'd get the best gas mileage at the minimum RPM in top gear, which is 46MPH. Just a theory? But since there's not much power there it may require some boosting which consumes more fuel if you get on the pedal.

65MPH sounds good though as that's our speed limit here in CA.

x2 i would think the same as well, but i think it has something to do with drag and such, and each car will be a litte different due to its aerodynamic design

You would probably get better mileage at 46mph, but that's not a speed that you can drive at on the hwy. I say 65 instead of 60 or 55 because that's a speed that you can actually drive at that wont disrupt traffic.

Definitely. Our speed limits on roads is 45MPH so I usually do a little above cruising in 5th gear. But the stop and go traffic kills the MPG.

21 mpg -- lifetime so far, fluctuates between 19-23 more or less depending on hwy/city mix and winter/summer gasoline blend

I have had my 2008 for 6 weeks and I have not got 300 miles on a tank yet. Mostly city driving.

220 to a tank is an avg low for me, about 280 is the high. the high flow K&N engine filter, when i have it in from late spring to late fall (just took it out a few weeks ago) put me around a consistent 280+ or so per tank this year. When its out, i notice an avg tank lasting around 240-260 miles. This past year, about 80% 45 mph backroad driving (some stop signs/signals), 20% city driving. No big stretches of highway unless for trips. I think a consistent 300 miles per tank is unrealistic in the RDX, but mileage, per person, varies so who can say what to expect. I have never rolled consistent 300 miles to tank, even if long drives for vacations (long for me would be 1 1/2 hrs of straight highway - i dont usually go further than that). I did a few times, but they were an anomaly.

3 months since I drove my 10' off the lot. 7200 miles on the odometer, 23mpg combined and ~ 25 to 26+ mpg on highway trips.

The posted hwy speeds in NM is 75mph and some places in TX is 80mph. I'm lucky to get between 19.5-20.5 mpg with the cruise control in the RDX on the hwy with my avg speed around 80mph. Everything is +4 hrs away out here.

I get around 31-32 mpg in the TSX at 80mph. I wish the RDX would get to the mid 20s on the hwy at the same speeds (6AT or 7AT might help).

All these numbers don't seem so bad - but then my other car is a Shelby GT500 so anything that gets 20ish mpg seems great to me LOL.

Just filled up my new 2011 FWD RDX for the first time and got a total of 377 miles of mixed city/highway driving. 377 miles/14.6 gallons yielded 25.8 mpg. Not too bad for my very first tankfull of gas...

FWD does make a difference, the highest I ever got on my AWD was around 23 mpg, that's when I cruised on highway at ~55mph. Normally, we get around 20mpg, 80% on highway and 20% city. While 300 miles per tank is not a problem, I do wish it get better mileage for a car of this size.

27.5 mpg

Just drove around the island this past Sunday.

I got 27.5 mpg.

The RDX covered 104.4 miles and used 3.8 gal. of Costco Premium.

I have a 2008 RDX w/ Tech Pkg and it has the SH-AWD. I'm assuming the FWD models might do better.

So far this thread has been quite useful. I currently drive an 05 TSX and avg 25mpg with mixed city/hwy driving. All hwy i get around 32mpg. I absolutely love this about the TSX but I need more room since my son and I do a lot of outdoor adventures (rafting, boarding, camping, hiking) We live in the Bay Area and head up to the Sierras fairly often.

I have been looking at the RDX( 07 - 09 models). The looks are just average to me. (I actually like the looks of the MDX better) The interior is great and I just the the tech pkg (I have nav in my tsx) I also love the handling of the RDX. I swear it handles as good if not a little better than my TSX. The one thing that worries me is the MPG since I drive about 30k miles a year.

So if I'm getting 25mpg avg in my tsx, what do you think the avg in the RDX would be?

The other car I have been looking at is the 08 -09 Subaru Outback XT Limited.

Thanks in Advance

I was in the same situation a few months ago. I just got my '11 Tech/SH-AWD in September. Coming from my 04 TSX, the RDX feels more planted on the road. You will be disappointed by the mpg, though, just to warn you. I was about the same as you, around 26 mpg in mixed driving in my TSX, easily 30 or better in hwy driving. At 75 mph on the hwy (90 mile commute), I am only getting 19 mpg. However, it is COLD here - your area is nowhere near our temps, which really does a number on mpg.

Before it got real cold, I was getting about 21-23 mpg avg, mostly hwy driving. Just be prepared for the drop, and you'll be ok. It has been really nice to have the extra space/utility with the RDX, so it was worth the trade. I, too, prefer the looks of the MDX, but it is a rather large vehicle to drive on a daily basis, plus it is more expensive.

We bought our 2007 Tech on Memorial Day and have averaged 18.47 mpg. We've put on 4,000 miles with almost a 50/50 split between city and highway driving.

It doesn't like cold weather, city driving however. Our last four tanks produced 15.33, 16.04, 15.02 and 13.56 mpg.

^ Wow! 13?!

I thought my 19 was bad.

I've put a bit over 6000 on mine since Sept. It's still fairly new and could break in a bit more, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for the Reply LuvMyTSX. I Just can't get myself to pull the trigger with that kind of MPG. That will cost me an additional $100/mo in gas. I'm looking more at the 08-09 Outback XT limited w/ nav since it gets better mileage on the average than the RDX. With the OBXT I will probably only drop 2-3 mpg average which is justifiable. a drop to less than 20 is just too hard to justify when you drive 30k miles every year. =/

I love my RDX; but, the mpgs can sometimes be disappointing compared to other vehicles. I can go an extra 100 miles between fill ups in my TSX compared to the RDX during my normal commute to work.

I think of the RDX more of a performance based road vehicle instead of an off road SUV/CUV. The awd Outback sound like a better fit for your lifestyle compared to the RDX. If I’m going to get 18-20 mpg average in the RDX atleast give me around +320 hp to justify it.

Maybe Acura will bring back the diesel or have a hybrid option along with 6AT or 7AT with next RDX/MDX.

In mostly neighborhood/city driving, we often get tanks in the 13s. When family was in town and we were making lots of freeway trips, we pushed the average up to the 18s. I don't think we've had a single tank in the 20s, but we've never taken a road trip long enough that an entire tank was consumed on the highway.

Woah! That's even worse than my GT500!

Our RDX is averaging right around 19-20mpg in combined (winter) driving.

i didn't buy an rdx for fuel economy. i didnt walk into the dealership going hmm ill buy a turbo 4000lbs SUV with sport suspension and SH-AWD for the fuel economy. I bought this car purly for performance and its coolness. it drives like a sports sedan. I knew what i was getting into and am very satisfied with my purchase. However most of the acura customers are step up owners from honda/nissan/toyota so this expectation is understandable. The thing is no other crossover at 4000lbs with this kind of AWD system can give you 22mpg and 270hp (230whp [hondata reflash], 210whp stock) at 5000RPM! and dont give me the sonata bullcrap, honda undervalued RDX's horsepower and you know it. DESPITE having "30" extra horses the Sonata has the same 0-60 times as the heavier RDX (well actually its 0.1s slower than the x but w/e).

RDX Dyno result with and without hondata reflash.

most of the power is present in low-mid ranges compared to a lot of different vehicles. I say the $30 extra for gas on the RDX sh-awd is worth the amount of fun i get to have with it compared to the sonata. im tired of hearing complains about rdx's mileage lol. im getting 11.2L/100km with spirited driving (21mpg) at average speed of 55km/h (35mph). Mods include hondata reflash, magnaflow performance exchaust, k&n air intake for 250whp (300hp). i always run on shell 91 no ethanol and castrol edge synthetic motor oil 5w-20.,

Friend of mine has a Toyota Sequoia which gets 15 mpg, so he balanced that out with a Prius as the second car. He could care less about sporty performance.

You need to find what is important for you (and your family). If you like the RDX, you'll never be happy with a CRV. So don't kid yourself about mileage and practicality, no one drives an RDX just because they need transportation
