RDX Engine vs. TL-S

Ran across this brief overview of the new Acura TL Type S...a sweet looking car (Acura's best so far in terms of looks IMO). Here's a little tidbit that caught my attention:

"The Acura TL Type-S gets a 3.5-liter V6 good for 286 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 256 lb.-ft. torque at 5,000 rpm."

I've only recently become a car enthusiast so I could totally be off here. ...but my question is, how come this engine didn't show up in the RDX?? Wouldn't it make more sense for the "sporty sedan" to have the turbo engine and the powerful V6 in the larger SUV? And looking at the specs, this V6 that can deliver just as much torque and is probably a lot smoother. Estimated MPG is the same for city driving.

Oh, and as a sidenote, it doesn't look like the Type S has memory seats, power passenger seat, or auto-dim mirror either. I'm seeing a trend among Acura newly launched cars.

No V-6 in RDX to:

- better differentiate it from the MDX
- help weight distribution
- blah, blah, look around the forums. . . this thread doesn't address anything that hasn't been previously beaten to death

another chip into the 'differentiate' pile.

the top of the line MDX already gets the 6, and now a bump up in power in the '07 model. they dont want each segment cutting into one another's sales. besides, the turbo 4's in our rdx do the job quite well

The TL has had power passenger seats since at least 2000, probably longer. Not a new model by any means. The torque curve on the RDX is considerably different as well.

I wouldn't mind a 3.0/3.2L V6 option on the RDX..still different from the 3.7L MDX, but the weight and power would not match the T4. Ultimately they didn't want to put a V6 in the RDX, so that's that.

Plus, apparently the V6 would have been a tight squeeze under the hood due to the added material needed for the new ACE body structure.
