Quiet tires

Hi all, lurker here.

It's time to replace the stock Michelins on my wife's '07 RDX. Her biggest criteria is quietness. The stock tires fit the bill, but I'm wondering if anyone here can suggest a tire with better performance and no increase in sound. I'd also prefer an asymmetrical thread to make my life easier when rotating the tires.

Here's what I'm looking at:

  1. Michelin MXM4 H rated (cheaper than OE W rated)
  2. Continental ExtremeContact DWS (I run their predecessor ContiExtremeContacts on my '08 STI)
  3. Yokohama Parada Spec X
  4. Goodyear Eagle Response Edge
I'll be looking to purchase this month. I'll probably have an alignment performed as well. She has 50K miles and I don't recall her every having the alignment checked (tires have worn fairly even though).

Thanks!

I am currently running my RDX on Yokohama Avid V4S (V-rated). It's very quiet running, and pretty good on light snow. Plus got them for only $150 a piece.

I have Continental DWS's on my G35X and they seem pretty quiet to me. They are good in all weather and have a 50k mile rating. I will buy them for my RDX pretty soon.

Have you had any balancing issues with the Contis? I had the ContiExtremeContacts on my old '03 WRX and it took it back a few times to have them rebalanced. Seems they like to shimmy at higher speeds depending on temps. I've noticed the same thing on the set I have on my STI (and took it in 3 times to have them balanced). Other than that, I like them because they are cheap and absolutely excel when they are in their environment (bitter cold and rain). Not bad on the snow either.

I'm hoping the new version doesn't have the balance issues.

I haven't had any balance issues. I've had them for about 2 months with no issue.

Yoko V4s are not in your criteria, but are really quiet....don't know how they compare to the OEM Michelin's.

I just installed Continental ExtremeContact DWS. They are indeed quieter than the factory-installed Michelins. The Michelins I had lasted 51,300 miles driving around New Jersey.

Also, there was fresh snow this morning (about an inch) and the DWS moved nicely on the snow.

I have been running the Yokohama Parada Spec X for 4 months. I would highly recommend them. They are quieter than the stock Michelin's with better performance. No problems in the snow.

maybe its the place doing the balancing and not the tire?

I installed Goodyear Quiet Tread tires about a month ago, and they are very much quieter than than the OEM Michs. I live in AZ so no snow info on them.

I have Yokohams V4S installed and they are quite quiet, but definitely comparable to the stock michelins in all areas. For dry/wet handling, feels grippier than the oems. For light snow, no real issues.

Thanks everyone. I found a local dealer that matched tire racks price for the Yokohama Avid V4S. Just waiting to hear when he gets them in.

As for the unbalanced Conti's, after giving the installer a few chances to get them right, I had the dealer rebalance them. Better, but still not perfect. I think it's the tires. Had the same issue with another pair on another vehicle, different installer.
