Possibly pulling the trigger on 07 RDX tech..cpl questions

whats up ppl? im normally in the TL community but my wife needs a new car and has been looking at the Touareg, XC 90 and RDX. The RDX seems to fit our budget best and looks to give us the most truck per buck despite its smaller size compared tot he other 2

anyway, the 07 RDX has 76K on it and is out of warranty. It seem to be pretty reliable from the reviews i have read on here and the net. So i am asking you guys, if we do get this, should I get a GOOD 3rd party warranty for peace of mind? Personally dont care for acura care as they have hassled me regarding my 05 TL many times

Also, any electrical issues i should look for? my TL hasnt had any except a faulty alternator and blown interior dash bulbs.

OH YEA, during the test drive, i also noticed some significant vibration (can be felt in the seats) from the engine while stopped with the vehicle in drive. is this normal? should i be concerned with replacing the motor mounts?
coming from my 6spd TL this seems like a bit much but maybe normal.

anything else to look for as far as maintenance goes at this mileage? btw: this truck has a pretty stiff ride but we are used to it as my TL's modified suspension is about the same

thanks is advance for your help! Hopefully we can pull the trigger on ths 07 RDX this week

some issues, electrical issue to be aware of are:
1. dead batteries caused by the stereo AMP not shutting off - this pertains to the TECH model which u are looking at & there is a TSB for this as well
2. The 07's had fault wiper controls, this has subsequently been replaced by a modified control (the arm w/dial) If the control is bad, usually you will see the wiper acting erratically or not responding to intermittent settings or not shutting off

Thats all i got off the top of my head, go thru the TSB postings here: https://acurazine.com/forums/1g-rdx-diy-faq-161/acura-service-news-tsbs-rdx-771750/

^nice! thanks for the info! so what are you guys views about the 3rd party warranty? get it? or dont?

also, should i be concerned about the vibration from the engine at idle while in drive (stopped at a light)?

Just bought my '07 with 128k miles last week. Was thinking about a 3rd party warranty too but hey it's an Acura! I figure the couple of grands saved from warranty could be put to repairs if need be.

As far as electrical, the backlights on some of the A/C controls on the driver's side is going out (up/down arrows, circulate, auto, off) but nothing major here.

For mechanical, it would be nice if the RDX already had the timing belt/chain and water pump changed as you said it has about 76k miles. Otherwise, you're gonna have to spend some on that.

Good luck!

It's a chain on these engine's, right? Which wouldn't need serviced ever or for a very long time.

Speaking of water pump, how is that job on this engine?

Congrats, if you do pick it up today.

The vibration could be several things. Was the engine warmed up? Sometimes 4 bangers have a little more vibration until they are warmed up. It could also be the gas. Premium is recommended, but there might be regular in there. Hopefully it is nothing major or just goes away eventually on its own.

depending on where ur idling in the RPM range, the 4 sends vibes thru the cabin. normal and just the way it is. if you actually think something is up, go with ur gut and get it checked out.

^^ahh ok...i was thinking maybe the 4 banger just normally sends vibes thru the cabin. my TL doesnt do this at idle (6MT) so it was an alert to me. i had the dealer check it out and the acura inspection also said everything was ok so

N-E way, the wife and I picked up her RDX today and all is well! she is a happy camper and so am I (now my mind can rest....lol)

since its primarily her vehicle, i wont mod is too much, maybe some running boards and possibly the hondata reflash (if i can convince the wife)

thanks again for all the help and input guys! ill be lurking around here alot more

Congrats on your RDX.

My wife is giving me fits about the RDX I found... She thinks they are too plain, and she doesnt like the 75K on the odometer. Ugh. Wants an X3 3.0si or newer Grand Cherokee limited.

I'd personally like the RDX Tech for the price and amenities.

Why are those running boards so expensive, dang. They look good, but 500 seems like a bit much.

AGREED!! im all about value and what you can get for your $$ X3? PUH-LEASE!! my wife said the same and i told her im not paying a fortune for maintenance to BMW. Plus i hear the 07-08 models have some serious tranny issues

N-E way....haha....yea, it took me some convincing to get the wife to even get behind the wheel of the rdx then she fell in love with it!....tell your wife that mileage on these cars means NOTHING! lol

yea, those running boards are too damn expensive to me as well i was hoping to search around on ebay or craigslist or the blackmarket here and find them cheaper hopefully. Install seems to be a breeze tho. the rear diffuser looks nice too but again too much $$ for some plastic..lol. plus that install looks like a real PITA

The 4 cyclender engines in the TSX and the RDx both have a timing chain so no need to worry about replacing. Congrats on the new RDX.

I HONESTLY wanted to get a touareg but the 07 model...however it was out of our budget for the new suv...i hear the 1st gen touareg's were more than a handful to deal with. But they are awesome SUVs exspecially the v8 fully equipped ones. Congrats on the 09 RDX. ENJOY!
