Plasma TV transport in the RDX

Can I fit a 50 inch plasma in the back of my TV? Has anyone done this upright, or only flat? I am moving long distance and don't have the box anymore. I don't want it to block my rearview view.

Thanks.

I had put my 55inch Sony LCD in the back of my RSX! I am sure the RDX could handle it!

I'm sure you did, but you are not supposed to transport plasma screens flat.

I just moved a 40 inch LCD in my TSX. I put it upright in the back seat. It was wrapped in bubble wrap and a blanket and sitting on cushions. That was about a month ago I have not experienced any problems. I just had an RDX as a loaner a couple of days ago and it seems like you should be fine moving a 50 inch upright. Just wrap it up and pad it real good to reduce the 'shocks.'

I'm not sure why you'd want to do that, but I guess it depends on how much empty space you have in the back of your TV. I suspect it will have to be bigger than the 50 in plasma you're trying to shove in there.

Sorry...couldn't resist.

I got a 54" Panny in the back. Laid it flat. No issues. I used to work for a company that did custom A/V installs. Panels used to get laid flat all the time. Never had one damaged in the six years I was there. We did not do it as a matter of course, but no one panicked about it. I think for shipment across the country on a truck it would be a bad idea, but across town in what is essentially a car, driven by the owner of the panel?

I bought a 46 inch Sony XBR this past summer and it fit no problem, laid flat in the box. It was kinda funny when I bought it the salesman was like do you want it delivered? I was like no way! I'll take it now. Then he said do you have an appropriate vehicle to fit it? I was like, yes..... lol

I bought a 46" Panasonic plasma last year and laid it down flat. Transported it back home no problem.

However, I didn't know you weren't supposed to lay it flat at the time....I MIGHT have paid for delivery had I known (I'm super-sensitive with my gadgets). Still everything ended up okay. I would just drive very carefully and pad the floor with a few blankets if you're worried.

It seems as long as one safely and securely moves their flat panel with padding then all is fine. But which type is more delicate or prone to damage intransit? LDC or Plasma?

I would think Plasma would be more prone to damage yet my brother bought a 46 inch Panasonic plasma online this past summer delivered cross country by a standard courrier and it came out fine. And you KNOW any courier isn't going to transport it any safer than you would do yourself.
