pic request: RDX with Nerf bars (side steps)

My 4 year old is having trouble climbing in and out of the car so I'm considering a mod.
Because of price considerations, I was thinking of installing nerf bars instead of OEM running boards but I'm not sure how it would look. The nerf bars on ebay is about $150 compared to the running boards at 400-450 shipped.

Also would you get the stainless or black nerf bars on a polished metallic RDX?
Anyone have these nerf bars on their RDX and can give feedback and/or post a pic?

Thanks for the help.

thanks... still not sure if I should try and find a used set of OEM running boards (which would take some time) or get the nerf bars now.
I guess if it was nerf bars, the polished stainless steel would be the way to go.

I was thinking about install either the nerf bars or running board since I have recently install my front bullbar.

Only thing stopping me with for the running board is the nerf bars are half the cost of it.

Why exactly would you add running boards or these bars to a car that you basicly step down to get into?

They look kind of silly to me, and smack of bolt on overload.

I don't mean to insult you if you like them, but whay would you add a functional accessory that you don't need?

Did you get a chance to read the first posting?
ikkoku said needed for his 4 year old son to get in and out of the RDX.

I like the running board because of look it is added to the RDX as the rest of the people on this forum with the running board. (Or plan to purchase on in the future)

Exactly because of practicality for the 4 year old. Since no one here has any pics, I went ahead and ordered a set of nerf bars from the bay. Will try to post some pics when I have em installed.

Even tho I like the looks of the running boards better, I didn't want to put in too much money since the RDX is leased and needs to be returned in another 3 years.

btw, I got them for $119 shipped.

Do you have the link where you order from?
Please do take some good pictures once you install them.

Thanks.

Ok, got the nerf bars in yesterday and was able to put them on today.

Here's some pics. Quick and easy install. 24 bolts and it's installed. No lift necessary. Included instructions were sufficient. My only advice is (if you were to put these on) to be mindful of the height of the bar between the front and back. If after you've tightened everything and realized (like I did) that the back is lower than the front, you just have to loosen a couple of bolts, adjust and re-tighten.

It's not as solid of a feel as the OEM running boards (but I've only had OEM running boards on my old Pilot), but for my purpose, I'll think it'll work. I think it's worth the $120 plus an hour install time.

Side benefit is that it's easier to pick out in a crowd of moms' RDX at the school's parking lot

If you are looking at it from the front, you can barely see them.

Nice pictures!
Can you take one from the back angle looking forward?

Did you install them yourself?
Can you scan or post the instructions up?

I want to see if I am able to do it myself.

It's dark now, I'll try to get the pic from the back tomorrow.

Regarding instructions, it has both text and clear pictures. Unfortunately, I've already thrown away the instructions. It's really easy tho. I'm sure you can do it yourself. It just takes about an hour (with breaks) and tightening bolts. I just put cardboard down and went at it without any issues. btw, I used a 13mm socket with the ratchet.

My daughter just tried it on our way to dinner and it's working perfectly.

Fedex. and I got tracking within the hour. I did BIN in the morning. They ship from SoCal so you can calculate the time it needs to make it to you.

I know... I'm still thinking about the roof rack.... no particular use for me. It'd be just for aesthetics... but I don't want the added weight

^Not bad. I think I would choose the bar over the factory rail because the nerfs don't stick out as far. And let's face it saving $450 (300) is nice too.

sorry for the delay and crappy pictures of my dirty RDX! (took it with my camera phone)
It hasn't stop raining and snowing this past week.

I know there is not a lot of RDX fans for the bull guard in the front but I live in NYC.
So every 20 drivers; there is about 18 of them that don't know how to drive and have respect for other people's cars.

Let me know what you guys think of it so far.

I think it is pretty good.
I had trouble installing the first side due to it was only 20 degree.

I install it by myself so the first side took a little longer than it should had.
I had to make sure it was line up correctly plus running in and out from the house because I couldn't feel my toes anymore. (Took at least an hour something)

The second side took me 15 minutes only.

damn you are hard core. installing the bars in 20 degree weather.
I think it's well worth the price. Much better value than OEM. And for you, it matches your guards

JCRDX11,

If you don't mind me asking, why did you decide not to keep your nerf bars? Astethetics? Fit? Function? I wanted a cheaper alternative to the OEM running boards and was not sure if saving $200 is worth the risk.

I got the NERF bars originally because of the looks. The side look naked without it because I had the front bull-bar and the tow hitch ball on the back.

The Nerf bars is a good and cheaper alternative if you want it for the looks or simply need a side step for kids or older people to get in and out of the car.

I decided to switch it for the running boards because the look grew on me.
I don't need it for the function part because I am almost 6 feet and my wife is 5"7.

The Nerf bars is very easy to install. I would suggest to set up the mount kit first before you start to get under the car to install the bars.

Instructions will tell you to do everything under the car.
It will save you a lot of time and headache if you set up the mount kits first before hand.

Also you don't need to jack up your car but I did.
It is much easier to work under when the car is higher.

the oem running boards, coupled with roof rails just completes the look imho. Without them, the car looks weak and incomplete.

How are the nerf bars compared to the oem running boards in regards to durability? Do the nerf bars feel flimsy at all?

Sorry no pix. Very happy with the outcome after install.

The nerf bars are pretty solid.
I purchase that in the beginning for the looks to match my front bull bar.

But I start to like how the running board looked and end up purchase that also.

Too bad you are not in NYC - I have my nerf bars up for sale in the Black Market section.
