Panorama On/Off? 08 Tech RDX

Ok, I'm not sure if this has been post before. Today I had something right in front of the shift knob and when I shift to "Park" the package accidently push and hold the Power/Vol knob. Then I heard a beep and I noticed the upper display showed "Panorama Off". Then I tried again and it went to "Panorama On". I was wondering what is "Panorama On and Off"? I tried searching on the Owner's Manual but nada!

Never knew that option, did you notice a change in camera view or gps screen? I can only think of those possibilities, and I'll go try mine out later.

Have no idea, but you don't have to have the car in park to active the feature, whatever it is.

From what I could find after a Google search is that the "Panorama" function is for the navi, but not available to us.

Appears to be a function of the Panasonic audio system and Dolby Pro Logic. Panasonic home theatre systems have Panorama function. In the RDX, I could not duplicate the "panorama off" message unless Dolby Pro Logic was set to "on"

Could the "panoromic on/off" be the something to do with the scrolling of text across the display in the tech package?

I would guess it's the viewpoint of the maps. i.e. Bird's eye or panoramic.

I dun have an answer but this is what I think of it.

I think it has to do something with the audio more than anything else since it's the power button for the audio system. It's confusing that the system uses the word "panorama" though since it implies something visual rather than audio.

Does the sound change at all? like more surround sound when it's on rather than off?

I believe it is for the surround sound (effect). Regular panasonic home theaters have this option along with Music and Movie most of the time.

Strange....in my '07 (Nav ver 4.73A), I ONLY get the "Panaroma Off" message. I tried it this morning while listening to XM, and it doesn't appear to be a toggle...

I did notice a bit of difference on the audio when I had panorama on and off. I never used panasonic home theater before. Good to know, cuz at first I thought it "panorama" meant something about panoramic roof or a panoramic view on the navi.

catnippants, try to push and hold the power button. Then turn the button while been pushed. You should be able to change it from off to on or visa versa.

I tried turning it off and on yesterday while listening to XM. Nada, zip, nothing happened that I could see or hear, other than the display changing from panorama on to panorama off.

Maybe someone should call Acura Customer Service if you need to know?

Other thing I found that you can change when in this mode

Yes, Prologic needs to be on. Then hit and hold the power knob. In the upper display the Panaroma comes up and you can turn it off and on. I also found that when you are in this 'mode" and then hit the preset 3 it changes to "center width" and you can change the value. Then if you hit the number 2 preset you get "dimension" which again you change. You will definitely hear a difference then you change these. They seem to have some thing to do with the sound channel settings.

Great find!!! Thanks!!! I set the Center Width to +5, and Dimension to +3. Big improvement IMHO.

So I did a little searching for definitions/explanations on the web. If the parameters are the same as with Panasonic's home theater systems (as mentioned by a previous poster), then here are some explanations - found in two different places. They definitely appear to be related to ProLogic II. Frankly, I'm surprised that they aren't documented in our manual....although I really don't see them as being very useful.

Source 1 - Panasonic Home Theater System manual

PANORAMA
Sound is spread more so you feel like you are surrounded by
music.

Center Width Control – C-WDTH
You can choose a level between 0 and 7 – the higher the level,
the more the sound from the center channel is spread into the
front speakers.
The default is level 0.

Dimension Control – DIMEN
You can choose a level between 0 and 6 – the higher the level,
the more the sound moves to the front.
The default is level 3.

Source 2 - Crutchfield

DPL II Effects: When in Dolby Pro Logic II's Music or Panorama modes, you can adjust the center width and the dimension control. The center width helps you realize a more natural sound image when listening to music by moving the sound out into the front speakers, or add sound to the center speaker to fix the center image. The dimension control can make up the differences in the output level of the front and surround speakers.

You're welcome - but I guess I'm rather disappointed. I was hoping for something more dramatic. Seems rather pointless to me since we already have a separate center channel volume adjustment and a fader. That may be why they didn't bother documenting the parameters...

I tried it today & I thought it sounded WAY better. It seems like it really opened up the sound. Was listening to Pink Floyd's dark side of the moon on first test & WOW. Way better on XM.

Hmmm....there's something I hadn't thought of. XM bandwidth stinks, and as a result, so does the separation. If these adjustments can help add a bit of separation, it might be worth a try.
