Oops - 9,000 miles past scheduled service...

I have a 2007 leased RDX & have been pretty lazy about the last recommended service - my mileage is pretty low, but that's no excuse - just laziness on my part.

My current mileage is 23,000 and the service indicator specifies A16 (came on at about 14,000).

I plan to take it in to the dealer this week - should I just get A16 done, or should I ask dealer to do anything else ?
For the first time ever I am thinking about purchasing when my lease finishes in March, so looking for recommendations, rather than just doing the bare minimum.

Thanks
Mike

If you are leasing, like I have for about 15 years, I just change the oil and filters. The car will run over 100k without much being done to it. If there is a problem the computer wil tell you. Service visits are just a way to rack up big profits for the dealer. Modern cars don't need tune ups anymore. Your car will certrainly get thru the lease without any major repairs and doesn't need a tuneup.

I totally agree.. unless the lease agreement for the car stipulates that you require to bring the car in to a acura service dealer for maintenance, simply performing DIY oil/filter (keep receipts of parts), should be sufficient. That is why some folks lease cars, they don't have to "baby" their car, as compared to if you intend to keep it for 10 years.

Is this mileage in KMs or Miles?
I don't know how leases contracts are written, but you are definitely neglecting the fluid changes for the engine and rear differential. I don't really know if they can penalize you....
As for "additional" things to get done, I can't think of anything....tire rotations? I also have an RDX and has been trouble free for the two years I've owned it.

In ALL of my leased cars, I only do oil changes. The lease contract says "recommended" service, not mandatory.

Should have read the title better...

How would the differential fluid change be different than an oil change?

I did my last oil change on my leased 07 in June. At that time, I realized that I'd be hitting the next oil change around November, just before my lease ended. So I waited for the maintenance minder to get to 50% and then reset it. When I turned in the car last week it said 40%, so all is well.

FYI: I'd never buy a used car that came off of a lease. The stories on this page are probably the least of what some people do to leased cars.

I agree. I never understood why some cars dealer's ad says 'Just off lease cars' like it is some badge of honor.

Appreciate all the feedback...

This is actually a rare occurence for me - I have leased for about 12 years, with all recommended services performed on time and my vehicles normally look like new when they are returned...

I have always leased a new vehicle (normally a different manufacturer) at the end of the 3 year period. This time, I'm seriously tempted to buy it at the end of the lease.

Why different this time ? couple of reasons...

1. I'm just not very excited by anything else I see on the market at the moment - I had hoped that there would be a lot more hybrid choices available by now.

2. My residual buy-back value seems pretty good (unlike previous times) at $19,300. I have the RDX with Tech package and have just 23,000 miles on the clock - not a scratch on it. From what I have seen, similar Private Sales seem to be going for $26,000+. I'm thinking even if I buy it and keep it for a year, I have a good chance of recouping my $19,300 purchase price after 12 months.

What do you think ? Have many of you purchased your vehicles at the end of the lease ?

Thx
Mike

I would hate to see what kind of sludge build up you have in the engine now by going that long on the oil change.
