No Break in Required???

Soo bought a new RDX, delivery is tomorrow. When test driving the dealer told me to get on it as much as I wanted becuase the newwer Honda engines had no break in period. I was very confused and have NEVER heard of no break in period. Anyone know anything about this?

DO you trust any car sales person????
I am getting mine today and at this point, I do not trust anything the sales guy tells me any more. Just do not abuse any machine and you will be able to enjoy it for a longer time.. As far as I am concerned, it is a $40K investment and I will treat it as such.
Good luck. (to me as well)

Break in is required

According to the manual a break in period is required. I would quote it, but I do not have it in front of me. To paraphrase, during the break in period of 2000 miles, you should avoid jack rabbit starts and hard stops.

I had a similar experience with my sales guy. I was told there isn't really a break in period but it would be good not to drive at constant speeds for the first few hundred miles. I hate it when they just make stuff up like that!

Canadian RDX manual for break-in is within first 1000km no hard stops or full throttle acceleration. That's it.

I believe the break-in mileage quoted in the manual is 600 miles.

People treat there cars better than there own bodys. I drive mine like I stole it from the day I bought it. If you talk to allot of good motorcycle, car mechanics they will tell you it is good for the engine to get on it from day one. Not every traffic light but at least a couple of times. There are allot of debates and pissing contests over this but I am a firm believer in breaking it in like you will drive it. The manual states no full throttle starts and no cruise control for the first 600 miles. People dont realize that even if there new car has 20 miles on it every one that test drove it including the the guy that transfers vehicles from other lots to the dealer ripped the shit out of it most likely so it really doesent matter. Most all 10-40 miles you have on the car when you bought it were full throttle starts. When I test drive a car you are for dam sure I slam the gas evey chance I get to see the throttle response and exceleration. These people crack me up. Cant wait to hit vtec. Well news flash there car hit vtech probably about 40 times and the engine was probably not even at full operating temperature half the time before they sighn the papers for it. Sorry to rant but this makes me laugh.

You are correct. The manual says to avoid jack rabbit starts and rapid braking during the time. Seems like good advice, that I so far have followed. I hope to hit 600 miles by this weekend! Of course the demo RDX was a completely different situation.....

Cut and pasted from the RDX manual...

Break-in Period
Help assure your vehicle’s future
reliability and performance by paying
extra attention to how you drive
during the first 600 miles (1,000 km).
During this period:
-Avoid full-throttle starts and rapid
acceleration.
-Avoid hard braking for the f irst
200 miles (300 km).
-Do not change the oil until the
scheduled maintenance time.
-Do not tow a trailer.
You should also follow these
recommendations with an
overhauled or exchanged engine, or
when the brakes are replaced.

Sorry to hear that chyllin, I was not trying to sound like an ass to everyone. I am just simply saying I have seen the way dealer people drive these new cars. Even when getting service I have watched the guy that unloads the new cars off the truck and some of them jerk the crap out of them and than race them cold around to the beck of the dealer lot. All the tech ones at the dealer I got mine had some miles on them.

My tech had 4miles when I saw it in showroom, and 9 on delivery, guessing that was about right for the fuel fillup.

There's a bit less than 4 miles when I got my car. I ordered it and they use a trunk to load the car to the dealership.
