New RDX information

I've updated my blog with new RDX information, the various magazine reviews, and the new offical release date: August 10th.

Thanks for the PDF's of the articles from the 3 mags. You just saved me $12 in magazine expenses . I noted something interesting in the Motortrend article, and to quote:

" The five-speed is quick to respond
when enthusiastically run through the gears
(paddles or stick), and the separation
between normal and sport modes are two
distinct personalities."

Does this mean that you can down/up shift the gears using the 'stick' when in the 'Sport' mode (like a conventional auto-stick)? I was under the assumption that when in 'Sport' mode, the only way to shift gears is to use the paddles. If the latter is the case then my disappointment on this particular setup would be justified. All RDX pics that I have seen so far do not show the ability to shift up/down using the 'stick'.

Great Post Once Again

Colin,

Great work on staying out in front with the updated information. I'd like to post a link on my own site with your permission. Also, I'm planning on producing vehicle walk-around videos and I was wondering if you had some tips on editing software. Lastly, I made the move to Acura of Cleveland and took over the ISM position. So I may be picking your brain more often.

Regards,
Rob Ralston

In the RL you can choose either to shift. IMO, I'd prefer the stick vs. paddle shifters since the gearshift never moves around (like the steering wheel).

Rob, linking is not a problem, but I'll probably remove the magazine reviews after a while.

Looks like Car & Driver and Road & Track think we should see the RDX near the end of this month. MT says August.

Colin, where did you get your offical on sale date from?

All the mags wrote those articles 2 1/2 months ago. The change in date happened within the last few weeks. My information comes from the Acura dealer network and an official in Acura. I doubt this is highly sensative information, but I'm not posting sources on the web for all to see. You'll just have to trust me.

So who developed the turbo with Honda? The Edmunds first drive says Mitsubishi, the C&D article says Aisin.

Aisin is an auto parts company, mostly known for their transmissions.

Actually, I think I've had these data sheets for some time but forgot to put them up I did like this part I found in the Safety section, it seems to be an Acura first:

Active Head Restraints

The RDX fronts seats incorporate innovative front seat active head restraints that help minimize the potential for neck injury from rear-end collisions. In the event of such a collision, the occupant's body is pushed against the seatback. The pressure to the seatback is then transmitted mechanically from the lumbar plate via links that push the head restraint upward and forward to (reduce the gap between the occupant's head and seat head restraint) comparatively reducing the forces acting on the head, neck and spine at the time of the collision. This ability to help manage rear collision forces is a key component to reduce whiplash injuries. Active head restraints are standard on the Acura RDX but are unavailable on the BMW X3.

I love how they threw in the little dig at the X3.
