New member here

Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. I'm looking to purchase a 1st gen RDX as a daily driver. I've always been a fan of this car. Right now I'm just doing the usual research before I commit to buying anything.

I'm looking at the earlier year RDXs, the ones before the front bumper redesign. I'm more of a fan of those.

If anyone has any good threads that'll provide me some info that would be great since it'll cut down on my search time.

Thanks,
Larry

just be prepared for 18mpg gas mileage, I was looking for one back then but that really scared me away. I got a TL instead.. The RDX is a really fun car to drive, you can't go wrong choosing it if you can afford the gas.

Oh man, really? That's good to know. I get 20-23MPG in my Evo, and that's if I constantly drive out of boost. I want a small SUV and it was a toss up between a CRV or an RDX. I was leaning more towards the RDX for more luxury and the turbo of course.

I used to consistently see 22+MPG in my 2010 RDX. I drive mostly highway with some twisty rural back roads (they were fun to drive).

Thanks for the kind welcome, everyone.

I don't have too many recent photos of my car, but here's what I have.

Winter time (love this car in the snow):

Summer (a bit dirty):

And the reason why I want to get rid of the Evo as a DD: AMS 35r kit.

That's definitely good to hear from another member. Round trip for home to work is about 60 miles. I usually do more than that daily since I do errands after work.

If you are concerned about mpg, the rdx certainly isn't the best out there. It's fair to expect somewhere between 17-20 avg. I've been averaging about 18.5 mixed, but mostly in town. This is perfectly acceptable to me for a small suv.

You can't really compare a crv & rdx when it comes to driving dynamics. If you just want something the same size, then feature wise they compare just fine when you look at the loaded crv, and the crv has a TON more space. But personally, I wouldn't want to drive one as my DD. I'd buy one for my wife though.

As far as model years go for the rdx, there's not a lot of differences. I believe 08 added memory seats, auto dimming mirror, and a slightly softer suspension. Other than that, it's been pretty minor.

I just went through the MPG thread and I was able to gauge what I can expect from this car.

Any suspension would be nicer than my current car. I honestly don't mind the ride to and from work, but something softer wouldn't hurt.

The suspension definitely is not soft. My wife was actually complaining the other day that they ride was stiffer than my old stage 2 audi was. I don't notice it personally. I mean, it's a stiff ride, but I don't feel uncomfortable in any way in the drivers seat. I can't comment on the back seat where she tends to sit.

This.

The CR-V is not a good comparison to the RDX at all. If you want to save the money and don't care about performance, by all means go with the CR-V. But the CR-V is slow and sluggish, especially when compared to the RDX.

In terms of performance, it's apples and oranges.

When we were looking for a new(er) ride for my wife, she wanted a CRV because it looked "cute". We did the old test drive thing and the CRV just felt like basic transportation to get you from A to B. I took her to the Acura dealership to test drive the RDX and WOW factor was so much higher with the memory seats, luxury feel, back-up camera, ELS sound system, HID lights, turbo power, driving dynamics, and overall sporty look. She also liked the fact there is one RDX for every 15 CRVs on the road in Albuquerque.

I like the 07-09 model years the best because of the front end and painted back bumper. Just add the OEM front spoiler and do the Hondata reflash and don't worry about 2-3 mpg combined difference between the two. The $295 Hondata reflash will give you about 270hp/290tq AND about 1 mpg jump in combined gas mileage (pays for itself over time). You will gain so much more in the RDX compared to saving an extra $5-$8 at the gas pump.
