My RDX MPG Log

I never want to reset trip B. I am using it as my TOTAL CAR MPG for the life of the car.
Here is my fill up procedure. I keep it exactly the same every single time.
I fill up the tank until the pump stops itself because it thinks the tank is "full". I then proceed to put in exactly 1 more gallon after that point. I do this every single time so I know that I'm putting in as close to the same amount every time.
From all of my experience with Acura and their Trip Computers (since 2004) I have found that more often than not the trip computer is on the HIGH SIDE by about 1mpg. This can vary about +/- .3mpg depending on your driving style.

I do find what you do when fueling a little odd. Not only is not recommended, you can cause damage to the car. I challenge/dare/invite you to just fuel up to the first click and calculate the mpgs like that; I bet that you will get much closer to the computer number.

Topping off is not recommended. My Extra Gallon after the "click" still leaves me with at least 1-1.5 gallons of empty fuel tank. That is plenty of space for the air that is needed in the fuel tank. Plus it is not like I am in an area that sees 100deg temps daily..if that were the case I'd leave that extra room for expansion.
As a side note I've been filling up cars like this since 1996 and I've never had one bad thing happen to the car or fuel system because of it. I do understand your point though about filling it ALL the way up and how that could be bad!
ps...My main reason for getting that Extra Gallon is just to keep me away from the gas station as much as possible....An Extra Gallon means an extra 20miles in the RDX. They are always busy when I go there..it is like people know I'm going!!!!
pss...My trip B is showing 20.5mpg for the life of the car which just turned 2000 miles a few days ago! According to my Fuely Data I'm at 19.7mpg.

The fact that nothing has happened to your car doesn't mean anything, plenty of un-recommended, un-advised things are done to cars everyday and nothing happens, it does not make them right....
