MID average fuel consumption?

Has anybody checked the accuracy of the MID average fuel consumption? I had a read out of 16.8 for 215 miles of 50% city - 50% highway ......... but when I filled up and did the math it was actually 15.3. Not too impressive IMO. Maybe it will improve in time.

I've been getting around 18.5 mpg with 60% highway/40% city. Now 18.5 x 18 gallon tank = 333 miles. Now the last couple times when i filled up I only got near 300 miles. So I thought mine was also giving me a higher read out but then I realized that when I filled up, my tank wasn't completely empty. It was right near empty but without the fuel light coming on. And from my knowledge, I believe fuel light comes on when you only have 2 gallons left. so then 18.5 x 16 = 296 which is right near what my display was showing. So I dont know if you guys took that into consideration but I'm pretty sure mine is displaying accurate info...

With respect to "taking the size of the tank into account", I always fill up full and calculate "miles driven since last fill up / gallons dispensed at this fill up" so I'm getting a fairly accurate number modulo the accuracy of the gas pump and my odometer.

The MID is always at least 1 MPG higher than the result of the calculation and usually close to 1.5 MPG higher...

My Message Information Display tells me I'm getting 1.5 more miles to the gallon than what I calculate also. My calculator doesn't lie.
What are you averaging up and down those hills of SF?

If I don't work in some highway miles I can get 12 MPG or so on the computer, but I've never had a complete tank of city only driving so I haven't verified that number with a fill up calculation...
