Loud Gearbox Click
So I got the transmission software update for the delay in the gear engaging a few months back. My original complaint was that the car would take a long time to engage after shifting.....So, with the software update this problem was solved...the time delay was gone, but now there was a loud click of the gears engaging. I would put the car in gear, accelerate (car would start moving) and then a half second to a second later, there would be a loud click.
Has anyone experienced this?

Yep, I experience this as well. Example: back out of a parking spot, put in drive to go forward, and there is a small delay and then “click”! I think its characteristic of Honda trannies and is unfortunately “normal” as I have witnessed the same in other Honda made vehicles. To avoid the click, pause a second before pressing the accelerator after going from reverse to “D”, although not always possible.
A friend of mine had a Honda Goldwing motorcycle years ago and I remember even its tranny (obviously manual) would make a similar click changing gears!

that is a good example, only that it occurs putting it in Drive (without backing up)....I guess that there are TWO clicks, the one you speak of, and the second one I am talking about (post software update).
Before the update, there was a delay, and then, click, and go.
After the update, almost no delay, little click, the car goes, and then click....
Have you had the software updated in yours? also, if you don't mind me asking, where in CT did you get yours?

Yeh, it'll do it also just putting in "D" from a stand still. It doesn't seem to hinder performance or anything, just kinda weird hearing this “click" putting it in gear and moving but I've gotten used to it. And, it doesn’t happen all the time but it’s clearly noticeable when it does happen. I didn't even know there was a software upgrade. Do you know if there is a published service bulletin on this topic? I got my '08 RDX from Devan Acura in Norwalk, CT this past June.

I told them about the delay and they did the update, later I found the software update.
I got mine from North Haven....I wanted to bring it for service to Devon (I work in Norwalk) and when I spoke to the tech she was so clueless that I didn't date....they already know me (what a pain I am) at Executive by Acura...

I my have the same problem with the clicking on my 09 rdx and 02 crv I actually took my crv to get it checked out and I was told it had something to do with the brakes engaging when going from reverse to foward .

I've got the same thing going on. Had it in my Ridgeline as well. I was told, and it makes sense, that it's the AWD transfer case engaging shortly after power is applied...hence just after you put it in D and the accelerate, you get the "clunk". My experience with it has been with these 2 vehicles as well as my sister's CRV...all of which are AWD. Just throwing it out there as a possibility. Had a Honda tech tell me this for the Ridgeline a couple years back as well as an Acura tech where I got my RDX from when I had it in there for its 1st service.
