Launchin in your RDX?

So I was at a light and decided to throw it into manual mode and get on the paddle shifters ... (just bouht my RDX a couple weeks ago). I'm in "M1" and once I had the green I punched it.... a little dissapointing. Is it just the lag of the turbo or what am I doing wrong? It felt like a if I was racing anyone I'd be far behind after 2 seconds.

this is a video I made while back on launching RDX. I use the brake torque method mentioned above. All turbos need high exhaust flows to produce boost. idle = no exhaust flow = no boost. it's only natural. That's why some turbo car enthusiasts install anti-lag systems. However we are lucky and since our cars have a torque converter we can 'fool' the turbocharger to spin without actually moving. Just floor the brakes, floor the gas and let go of brakes. Don't hold the throttle/brake together too much or you will overheat the torque converter.

also use of paddle shifters will hurt your time. Just leave it in S mode and let it do the shifting.

Thanks for the advice. I just wasn't sure about the power brake method. I've always driven a manual vehicle. I'll give this a shot

yeah in s mode mine shifts find over 6k but if I try to actually use the paddle shifters it stutters/cuts out and delays trying to shift close to the red line which is set at 6900 atm on my flashpro tune. not sure whats going on :-(. ran 15.7 at bandimere today with a 2200 rpm torque launch and s mode letting it shift. I have the cpe and flashpro :-\

15.7 is ridiculously slow. My 1-ton can run faster than that. I was really disappointed in the rdx on launches when I first got. I still haven't gotten the wife to sign off on any mods but she getting close after almost getting hit by truck cuz its so dead on the bottom

didn't see you were in Colorado. Does elevation make that big of a difference?

wow that's crazy I've only ever driven high elevations in my duramax and it pulled like a champ going across monarch with a 10k# tt

Diesels are a different animal altogether though...probably the least affected by elevation. The turbo is able to compensate for the thinner air by spinning faster and building up the same manifold pressure. This happens to a similar degree in the RDX...it doesn't lose as much power as a naturally aspirated engine, but more than a diesel. In fact the RDX at elevation will probably make the same peak torque as sea level, but the peak hp higher in the RPM band will suffer. Diesels...well, they aren't really concerned about making horsepower. haha

I figured it had something to do with volume of boost. The cfm of my dmax is several times that of my rdx.

does anyone out there use cng or propane fumigation since o2 saturation is lower?

if you hold the paddle shifter's down in sport mode stopped in sport mode it will start out in 2nd gear . FYI maybe try that . acura designed that for winter driving in snow but should work good for launches . IDK try it . also the rdx tq converter is a special design that is finned for the turbo response. look it up . hope that helps!

pickler what do you have done that you got those dyno numbers and what's the boost numbers .

Those aren't real numbers. It's an iPhone app.
