Is that due to turbo lag? DBW lag? or both?
The RDX seems like it has more lag than my old Dodge Daytona 2.2 Turbos I had back in the mid-late 80s, even though the RDX engine is much more powerful overall
Also, with the RDX having an auto transmission, I thought it would develop more boost by power braking before launch, since the there is some resistance. .How ever, it doesn't seem to make much difference.
Overall though, I'm real happy about the RDX performance for a small 4 cyl. SUV. Just wondering what you guys think..

 

I've noticed you can't floor the pedal at a dead stop because it feels like it bogs down the engine. You have to gradually add the throttle as the turbo starts to spools for the best acceleration from a stop. Another option is to apply the brakes at a stop and press the gas to get the rpms up around +1500 rpms and then you can release the brakes and floor the accelerator. That will give you the best 0-60 times; but, hard on the powertrain.

The RDX 2.3L turbo has a pretty low compression and the turbo really doesn't start to kick in until +2000 rpms. I imagine the 2.3L engine is only making 100-150 hp at 1000-1500 rpms before the turbo spools AND drivetrain loss with 5AT+sh-awd moving +4000lbs probably drop whp down to under 100 hp. Hondata seems to spool the turbo a little earlier and faster compared to the stock programming.

 

Get a sprint booster it will eliminate the turbo lag

 

Don't waste your money on a sprint booster. get a tune and you'll be pleasantly surprised. its mostly the drive by wire and honda nanny logic.

 

The Hondata Flashpro with basic reflash on my stock RDX makes normal drivability much better.

 

Is there anywhere to send my ECU to get the basic reflash done? I really don't need to be spending $700+ on the Hondata and getting a laptop.

 

You have to send the ECU from an authorized dealer. I don't think you can drive up to Hondata even if you are local?

I was having other work done when I did the reflash about 6 years ago (reflash, heatshield gasket, eibach springs). The shop removed, shipped, and re-installed the ECU for me. I paid for overnight shipping both ways plus the $300 for the reflash (overnight from NM to CA). Dropped the RDX off on Monday afternoon and drove it home after lunch on Wednesday.
