iPod link accessory - how does it work?

Would anyone who has taken delivery of an RDX with the ($500+) iPod link explain how it works?

Can you navigate your song files thru the car's conrols? Can you navigate playlists? Can you browse by artist? How does the "computer voice" I was told about at the dealership work?

I have ordered an RDX for delivery in late September, and still have the opportunity to add the (dealer-added) option for the iPod link. I want to know if it's worth it (since the cost of the "link" is more than the cost of a top-of-the-line new iPod).

Thanks, Dave

Dave-
the dealer told me the ipod link does NOT allow you to scroll songs on the Nav. But it does let you advance through a play list using the steering wheel controls. It apparently also "enhances" the sound quality -- although I'm sure that may be dealer fluff -- I'd be interested in others' thought -- seems like a waste to me--

The ~$500 price is without installation. My dealer was showing me that installed it would run around $850!

$214 retail

Per blow- Build & Price at Acura.com says retail price is $214 before installation. My dealer says you can contol the Ipod with radio controls but you cannot see the Ipod screen.

Before my RDX test drive I hooked up my iPod with the MusicLink to try it out. It provides limited control but not much feedback on the display. You can skip to the next track and control volume using the car's audio controls and you can see the track number on the display but nothing more. Without MusicLink you get full control using the iPod itself by plugging it into the aux input jack, but it's not very convenient while driving. For me there is not enough value to pay the extra $200 - $500 for MusicLink.

You cannot see the name of the songs (or any other MP3 ID3 tag info) on the navi screen with the MusicLink I tried on the RDX.

Y'know, I was thinking about a reslly complete iPod interface that showed you all the information you wanted and let you do all kinds of things. Then I thought about someone doing this at 65mph...

Here's a very good but not glowing review of the system. I emailed the author and he recommended that one just use the jack.
