Insurance key...thought you might be interested...

My insurance agent told me the key value they use for the NIssan Murano is a 2.

Infiniti FX35 is a 6.

A BMW 325xi is a 6.

2006 Acura MDX is a 4.

Car value keys are not only determined by value but also, how the car withstands a crash, how hard it is to repair or get parts, etc.

There was a time when cheap Kia cars had high key values because they didn't do well in crash tests, lots of damage, usually totalled.

He doesn't know what it will be for a RDX yet, but he's hoping it will be a 3 or 4 based on what the MDX is.

Just using the value of what I paid for the car put it at a 6...but he put it down based on the MDX value. Until they come out with the official "value" he can get away with this.

I believe the RDX is a 7 if I recall. But it's because it's brand new and hasn't been tested. Hopefully it'll drop down to a 4 next year.

My agent said the RDX hadn't been assigned a rating yet...so it wasn't a 7....so he rated it a 3 or a 4 (based in the MDX and price) until it's assigned an official rating. He can get away with this till it has an "official" rating. Once it has once assigned, it's immobile and nothing can be done by the agent.

What insurance company is that? Because I'm sure you're paying a lot less than me. (and I may want to switch *grin*) Mine puts the rating right on my detail of coverage.
