HID Lights

During our Friday night test drive, we noticed that the HID lights on the RDX with the brights on seemed to have a "line" at the outer edge with a different level of lighting beyond.

Very different from the HID lights on my FX. I tried my FX's this AM with brights on and it was a solid band of light of light.

Are the HID's on the RDX better, different, or?

Just struck us as odd although they seemed to work pretty well.

That's because the low beams are HID and the high beams aren't.

Thanks. Although I should know this, I don't. Do you know if the FX's (2005) are high beam for HID (I didn't think so).

Your FX is Bi-Xenon which means both the High Beams and Low Beams are HID's, While the RDX does have HID they're only the low beam not high beams, HID's are already bright on cars with this kind of lighting system most likely nobody uses the High beams anyways.

Thanks for the info. Interesting as both my wife and I felt that the RDX's lights were pretty good and a bit better than the FX35. Maybe it was our eyes playing tricks on us.

We use high beams all the time as there are deer out everywhere near us.

You're clearly a city dweller . Get outside a city and its major suburbs and you find:

1. Roads without street lights.
2. Moving targets (deer, raccoon, possum, etc.)
3. Small street signs.

I'm only about 45 minutes outside of New York City but I've got all of these and more in my neighborhood.

The FX has a few features that I think I will miss starting Friday when I turn her in for the RDX:

1. Intelligent Key - Allows me to press a little button on the door handle and unlock the car. I just keep the fob in my pocket.

2. Auto seats - When you turn off the car, the steering wheel goes up and the drivers seat goes back allowing easier entry/exit. Once you turn on the key, everything goes back to the preset. Neat.

Things I won't miss:

1. Nav system - Awful (I had no idea how bad when I bought it)

2. Lack of Bluetooth - How Infiniti missed this for a 2005 model is amazing.

i hear ya dude... the intelli key is sick i wish rdx had it like the RL does...

first the rdx needs power steering tilt before the easy entry exit lol

also, u should miss the memory seats and passanger power seats... ionno how a new car lacks it... stupid acura left it out so they can put it on the 2008 rdx.... pointless....

I never used the memory seats and rarely the passenger power. Those weren't a biggie for me.

HID is used for both highs and lows

I am not sure what the FX does, but the way the RDX works is that a baffle blocks the top of the HID light for low beams and then raises out of the way for high beams. You can see this in action in close quarters such as a garage. It will look like someone has placed something over the top of the beam causing a hard straight line during low beam settings. Ultimately HID lights are used for both modes, not just lows.

So the brights use both the inner conventionals and the outer HIDs with the upper blocking removed?

hmm interesting...so if u stand outside and look at the headlights and someone flashes the high beam for u, would u be able to see that baffle move up and down?

Opps!

I thought the RDX had the baffle setup, but I am wrong. I was describing the behavior of my '05 TL and had not noticed that the RDX was so different. The RDX does not have HID highbeams, it is only on the lows.
