Gen2 RDX?
Gen2 RDX?
AutoWeek in its recent Buyers Guide says the next generation of the RDX is coming in a couple years ('11 model?) with a possible hybrid version. So, is the MMC coming next year, or will the RDX carry over with maybe auto on/off headlights and key fob window opening? Your guess is as good as mine.
whatever they change, and whenever they change it, i hope they dont do much and stick to the current formula. if they start f'ing around with the interior like the new TL/TSX, and they start playing etch a sketch with the sheetmetal, they may lose a whole lot of ppl. I think the best thing going for the RDX and maybe even the MDX, are their more traditional/classic truck looks (maybe not that grille for the MDX) but overall...they have looks that you wouldnt mind owning for a long time. I had the TSX for 2 days and was already sick of looking at it lol. that new TL...honestly i dont even know,
anyways...maybe the RDX/MDX renewals will take into consideration the outcry from the press & public and stay more normal than the sedans direction

Unfortunately, I don't think this model is going to make it to 2.0. With sales falling to 600 units per month in October, I just don't see how Acura can continue with the current package. This car was intended to be decent seller with 40k units projected the first year. Sub-10k a year just isn't going to cut it.
The RDX is def getting a refresh and get used to the grill, my friend is a regional rep for the mid-atlantic and he said it's getting the new grill like the rest of the line when they do the refresh. Sux but it's a fact

i think the front grill will not change because of the air intake for the intercooler. it will not change until they A)redesign intercooler location, or B) chage it to a v6. I don't see either happening
I actually like the interiors of the new TL/TSX...the design seems pretty consistent with what started in the RDX.
I hope the next gen RDX will address the fuel economy "issue" that most of us have...whether in the form of a hybrid, diesel engine, adding a 6th gear, or even dropping a V6 in there. Aesthetically, going with an MDX-like shield would be good....a TL/TSX-like shield would not.

I totally agree with you about the styling of the RDX. I thought, and still think, it is one of the best looking vehicles in the class. But, the RDX as it is currently conceived, has not gained much of a following (for whatever the reason). So, Acura probably does need to consider a very signficant revision.
The main issue that will probably change on the next model is probably the drivetrain. I seriously doubt that the Turbo 4 remains. I will bet that you'll also see an interior that is very similar ot the current TL/TSX (which is extremely nice, btw).
The RDX doesn't really have that far to go to be a truly superb vehicle. Maybe improve the ride a tad, stick a V6 in there, and work on the MPG.
TSX interior extremely nice....? thats highly debatable and subjective. Where you may think its nice, I think its absolute puke. the black interior materials of the dash/door went entirely wrong, they look awful, like sun dried clay. the TSX, if anything, pulls it off "looks wise" on appearance maybe, but drive one and actually be in the car for a while, the looks fade and it becomes quite evident how they kept the price down. materially and fit/finish, its no better than a Honda, if at all. its not even close to the TL level, and honestly, i think the 07 TSX was overall nicer, had better feeling materials, and a much better and cleaner appearance. The HVAC controls in the TSX are laughable, reminds me of a baseline honda. Now if Acura actually gets serious inside the RDX, adds some nice stiching to the leather, drops the plastic found in it now and the current TSX and goes with real material, then theyll have something..will it add to sales, probably not....
Its not so much the premium feel, or the interior etc...its flat out the drivetrain, ppl get scared off by the word TURBO and the stock set up of the RDX's suspension and ride. Its a love it/hate it right off the bat. Theres no room for middle ground.
so i guess in the end....if they try to do what they did in the TSX, theyll lose another customer in myself...if they make it a clean cut cousin to the MDX, i think theyll be on the right train of thought, even tho it may go against the original mission of the RDX....they need to dump the sporting tsx think tank and get some maturity into the RDX, which may in turn grab some sales from people who like the MDX but are turned off by the chinzy TSX/RDX
make the RDX a serious contender in near/entry lux suv's and drop the take it or leave it approach and they may ahve something

hood scoop dude.....the grille is the new corporate image, just like Audi did with their lineup.....and Cadillac, and Ford.....

I'm not trying to argue that there is anything wrong with the drivetrain or the suspension in the RDX. My personal opinion is that the drivetrain is fine, and the ride not so bad (especially given the superb handling). But, its clear that these aspects of the vehicle have met with controversy and have not been widely accepted. I think you'll see big changes in the next generation (if there is a next generation) as a result.
Odont get me wrong, im not arguing at all...was just pointing out what the RDX's main faults (could be)
I love the truck, but its pointed at such a specific audience, thats all i was saying....
yea we are just on different sides of the fence with the TSX. I had one has a loaner for a few days and could not wait to get the BLANK out of it. lol It may seem upscale, spend a few days in it tho.

I wanted a TSX pretty bad...I thought that it was the perfect car package, mid size, 4 cyl, 200hp, so you get fuel economy and descent power...I test drove an automatic, and didn't think anything of it....anything...It did not provoke a reaction...
As for the new one, they made it bigger, heavier, packed more stuff in it, but didn't bother to do anything under the hood. The exterior styling is too controversial, same as the new TL, the interior was an improvement though.
Right now I have a TL loaner (prev gen) and I don't like it...I also remember how bad I wanted a TL too.

I think the failing of the RDX was more in part of the economy than it was anything else.
RDX comes out, with a turbo no less (gasp) and low mpg for the times we live in (w/gas in 3 to 4 bucks range) and you automatically have a product that will more likely that not not do well, especially within the Acura lineup.
if gas was 1.50, how many more ppl would be flying around in an RDX, who really knows, but im sure the the gas mpg argument about all these trucks, cx-7, acura, infiniti etc, would be miniscule compared to what it turned out to be, and a minor consideration when buying the truck...when gas prices during the Clinton admin were as low as they were, everyone, and i mean EVERYONE, was buying SUV's, and car makers couldnt make them big enough...did anyone go whoa wait a min, what gas mpg am i getting? No, because it was all relative to the times and suv sales soared.
when gas is $4+, the bang for the buck quickly diminished and ppl want more value/mileage for the money, not necessarily the performance. When vehicles like the RDX came out and all ppl are talking about is how to LAY OFF the boost rather than have fun with it, you have a serious problem. when its 1.50, all of a sudden the RDX could be considered a big bang for the buck.....
i filled up my car yest for $35 ...and i didnt think twice about its impact on my wallet, and i felt good that i had the RDX. when it cost me dbl that a few months ago returning the same mpg, ur looking at the RDX in a whole different light...it becomes the devil to some people...so there is alot of resentment directed to the vehicle emptying ur wallet

As I've noted before, 75% of families in the the US purchase a used car as their primary vehicle. The RDX is a great value bought used, regardless of the price of gas; bought new, not such a good value.
