Gas Mileage on Recent 2200 Mile Trip

My wife and I just traveled from San Diego to Bend, Oregon and back over the 4th of July Holiday week in our 2012 RDX SH-AWD. We had only 4,500 miles when we left and the odometer now reads about 6,700 miles. We averaged 23.1 miles per gallon for the entire 2,200 miles. Much better than I expected, especially since we had about a 4,000 elevation change! What type of gas mileage are other owners experiencing on long road trips?

Yep, but...If you take the train, as I do, and drive back and forth from the Park & Ride, it's 15-16mpg.

Sounds fair. Truth is I never look at mpg. I don't try to conserve fuel or fun. I just fill it up every time it gets to a quarter tank.

RDX is not exactly made for MPG. runs pig rich with a mere 8.8 compression ratio and has a turbocharger. it is made to burn fuel and lots of it and thats why i love it lol.

That's pretty good average. I was getting 22-23 on long trips

to be honest i have never seen a car on a dyno with such rich a/f ratio of 10:1!!! i think acura did this to prevent any detonation in case an owner runs regular/bad gas in the tank. the extra rich ratio will cool the engine and prevent knocks. at the same time this will harm your fuel economy greatly. if you want MPG then get the hondata ecu reflash. hondata will lean out your mixture by 1 point as well as adding a lot more low and high end torque. also an intake and exhaust mod will further lean out your mixture.

more MPG = more lean

I took a 2100 round trip from ABQ, NM, to San Diego, CA (with detours to Laughlin and Las Vegas, NV). I averaged about 19.5 mpg with my average speed being 80-85 mph on the interstate. I also had cargo carrier on top of my vehicle which maybe cost me about 1-1.5 mpgs (depending on the wind). I usually average about 20.5 mpg without the carrier at 80 mph. I also have Hondata and Eibach springs which might help a little bit. Lucky for me there was a Sam’s club at all of my gas stops and I saved .10-.30 cents per gallon compared to the local gas stations.

At the beggining of june, I took a 2000 mile trip (Cleveland OH to Destin FL) and averaged about 24.5 the whole way. Provided, I was babying it and never going above 80. I was shocked to break the 24mpg mark

I found this cool app for my iPhone called Road Trip v1.8.0.123. I used this to track my mileage, mpgs, maintenance cost, scheduled/unscheduled maint, future maint, gas stations gps locations, fuel cost, cost per day to operate, cost per mile, etc... I like the nerd factor of collecting and tracking data.

I usually use this iPhone app for actual numbers and the M.I.D. for rough estimates. I'm usually off by almost 2-2.5 mpg high on my TSX M.I.D. compared to the iPhone app (a little less with the RDX M.I.D.).

Driving all the way across PA on I-76 (through the Allegheny Mountains) I consistently get 24 mpg westbound and 27 mpg eastbound (60-70 mph, windows up and AC on).

Best mpg in 5 years ownership: driving down to the Del shore we got 29 for most of the way (even saw 30 for a good period) then dropped quickly approaching Rehoboth; and 26 coming back.

(On the MID.)
