Diesel engine for RDX 2010

I heard from my Acura Mechanic that Acura is coming out with a Diesel engine for RDX 2010 and will be releasing TSX with the RDX's Turbocharge engine.

The engine will have an equivalent HP compared to the 2009 model and with some extra torque. The specs for the diesel engine has been send out to all Acura dealers.

Sounds like complete rumor.

The only thing I have heard, from Acura, is the product manager in a video for the NY Times said the RDX engine was too big for the TSX and wasnt an option. They also said a diesel is coming for the TSX but did not mention the RDX.

Does everyone know that the most probable new high tech breakthrough to be soon introduced to the market that the automotive industry is working on is a GASOLINE DIESEL...??

Compression fuel ignition with low RPM cruise mode but spark ignition otherwise.

All under ECU control.

I was talking to a Acura mechanic when I took my vehicle for a service and he has mentioned that they have just received the specs and pics of the new diesel engine that will be introduced next year with the RDX.

If he is wrong then I may be wrong I am saying what I heard

If this is true, and mpg is much improved over the gas version, then the RDX may be back on my next car list.

He probably meant the TSX. In my experience, Acura dealerships are the best place to go if you want the wrong information.

If you were someone affiliated in any capacity with Acura sufficient to do so how much fun would it be to leak a bullshit rumor and wait for it to pop up here?

On-the-other-hand I've never owned a diesel vehicle. Where I live diesel continues to be a great deal more expensive than gasoline. Do you really get 70-90 cents more fuel economy per gallon in sporty driving? Afterall the RDX doesn't need the torque a bulldozer or big rig requires. Someone enlighten me. I know Volkswagon has been making diesel cars for a couple decades.

Diesel in inherently 30-40% more efficient based on the energy of the fuel and compression combustion. The newer diesels, from what VW was indicating are about 30% more efficient than a similar powered gas engine as some fuel is used to clean out of particulate filter.

Unfortunately it has been about 30% more expensive for the last five years or so--so no financial gain.

You go further on a gallon though. Mercedes E320 averages 26 the E350 averages 19... isn't that more than a 30% improvement..? Plus you gain torque and a Federal tax credit ($1,300.00 I think).

Of course. Most diesels have something like a 100+K payoff right now, though I've heard it's pretty easy to beat EPA numbers in the newer diesels.
