Bye bye RDX
Bye bye RDX
I had just pulled into an end parking spot on the right side of the street, and had my wheels turned to straighten out, when BAM! we get hit and I see a Nissan Armada careening over to the side. I had no idea what happened and no idea where it came from. Apparently, a car from the far lane pushed the Armada over and his right rear wheel hit my front left wheel. I saw his rear wheel sitting at about a 30degree angle and a chunk of his rim go flying.
I got out and couldn't believe it, but there was on body damage. It didn't even look like there was any damage to my car, but then I noticed it looked like my front end was slammed. Uh oh, I looked underneath and it looked like my axle was busted. There were parts on the ground and the shaft had come out of the gearbox.
Hopefully, the parts just broke and didn't get pushed into the tranny. And hopefully I can get it back soon.
1. Front left, slammed look after busted axle. (notice the clearance).

2. Armada's rear wheel w/busted rim.

3. Sayonarra RDX

Sorry to hear about the accident. Will you keep the RDX once it is repaired?
My theory of most accidents are bad timing, wrong place at the wrong time. If you were 15 seconds earlier or later, you will be rubber necking as you drive by the Armada in a wreck.
I wondered about the proper way to tow a sh-awd vehicle. I figured flat bed or additional tow wheels only.

Yeah, i plan to keep it. 93,000miles and going strong. It's funny, I was planning on some downtime for my car to get the ECU reflashed. But that will have to wait. I doubt they'll let me grab it while they are working on the damage from the accident.
As for towing, yeah, other tow shops said they needed a flatbed. But this one had the additional tow wheels and were just down the street.

UPDATE: Bent engine cradle, possible transmission damage, slightly bent frame rail. They body shop is sending it to Acura to see if it can still be fixed.
It might be time to start shopping for a new car. So much for my lifetime XM subscription and the new NAVTeq DVD I just bought and installed. But I guess I can transfer the XM and pull out the DVD.

I have lifetime XM and I was told it would not transfer to a new owner if I sold the RDX. I'm not sure what would happen if I wanted to keep XM and have it transfered to my new car...hope it's possible for your sake, though.
Do you get a refund if you trade in for a new car?
I believe you can transfer the service; just that you need to provide the new XM id number.
