Since you guys are pretty knowledgeable, I want to ask, what's done during this service? $120 for a glorified oil change doesn't seem right (synth oil). Can I bring the car to the dealer and ask for ONLY the oil change? I bet that a change at one of those quick lube places will count, right? I just got new tires, so no need to rotate anything.

What else do they do to go from $60 (approx oil change) to $120 (B service)?

 

what kind of car are you talking about?

 

RDX.....The quote for the full B1 is something like 150-160, I just got new tires so I save the $40 for the tire rotation.

 

Aside from oil and filter change, and tire rotation..... mostly just checks.... like the parking brake, fluids, etc.

If all you need is an oil change, then just do that.

 

The RDX needs a Acura HTO-06 approved oil. Pennzoil Platinum and Mobil 1 5w-30 are the only two that are approved AFAIK.

The B service is just an oil change, tire rotation and inspections. The inspections are done to make sure that everything is in working order and that all maintenance is up-to-date.

You don't have to take it to the dealer, just take it to the service center of your choice. I go to Pep Boys sometimes, and they do a good job, at least the local one here. Their synthetic oil changes with Pennzoil Platinum and an upgraded filter is usually under $50.
