Acura factory remote starter

Has anyone seen the factory remote starter offered by Acura? I just want to get more information on it.. range, if it is 2 way..etc?

I know that they offer the factory remote starter in Canada, but I don't know about the US?

My salesmen told me it will be $858.00 CAD installled on the new '07 MDX - ouch!

I wonder if I should go and get a aftermarket starter like Viper or Clifford. I am worried the aftermarket product (remote starter) could mess up my new '07 MDX (yes, I am paranoid)

Anyone seen or heard of the Acura factory remote starter?

I talked to the dealer yesterday about one for mine and my mom's new TL she will be taking delivery on in a week or two. They actually contract it out to shops in the area. don't know range but said they can def do on same keyfob if you want or have two fobs if you want. I would imagine it will get same range as your regular keyfob(sp?) O and said cost for dealer is $300 usually charge $450 for it, but willing to give it "at cost" for the new TL.

Acutally, I am pretty sure 90% that it is a factory remote starter. I saw an ad poster at the dealership with an Acura logo on the Key Fob.

I am trying to get more info on the remote starter from my dealership in the next weeks or so.

I might be wrong, but I think it is something new they have this year for the (Canadian Market). Not too sure?

$858.00 CAD for the remote starter package - OUCH!!!

I believe this is because the aftermaket remote starter can be programmed to your current keyfob.

any dealer installed remote start sucks... its a rip off and its got terrible range... they would use the same key fob, or add an addition keyfob which was the same or worse range as stock... which is like 10 feet for ME... they would always use the cheap brands ... never a 2 way pager... so right now me n a buddy are currently installing a 2way remote start of my car...

I have one. It's a 2-way starter.

Pros:

-Dealer installed, Acura accessory
- 2 way

Cons:
- Big Remote and you only get one.
- Limited range (it often starts, but the 2-way won't work)
- The car turns off when you unlock it - very stupid.
- There is no way to know the car is started other than the keyfob. At work, I park about 200-300 feet away from the building. Sometimes, the 2-way won't work and I can't tell if it started because no lights come on or blink.

I had a POS rental Malibu a year ago, and it started from the same location, the parking lights came on, the start button was built into the key and it didn't shut off when you unlocked the car.

get an aftermarket compustar installed...it has great range, light notification, remote notification and best of all it only turns off when the brake is pressed so if you put the key in and turn to on position and hit the brake it wont turn off.

^ I'll have to check out the models you guys listed. I am sick of seeing people I know who have run of the mill domestic models with remote start options. Acura, WAKE UP.

+2.

I just got the PRO version of this installed in my MDX and I absolutely LOVE it. I got the installer to program the fob to work with the Driver 1 & 2 settings, and it's also programmed to work with my TL (the "2nd Car" feature).

It only came with one for me. Acura charges something like $200 for the second one. When I asked about the remote starter, the salesmen told me it only came with one. He wasn't pushing me to get it either, he was just explaining the cons of the factory system.

Maybe it's changed. I am sure I also saw a brochure saying it was only one remote at the time.

this set up is amazing, no after market remote start touches this unit, here's the fob, you would be brain dead to not use this fob. it tells you everything about your car, has a liquid crystal display, and does a ton of shit.

I'm sure it is good...but I just watched the video and the Acura remote still requires you to shut the engine off and start it again with a key before you can drive it. "for safety reasons" (so someone can't hop in it and jack you!)

Not sure if all units do this or not?

I dont see how this is any better than a zenesis 2way alarm with a range of up to ONE mile(maybe im missing something?) that comes with shock sensors/add on proximity sensors/alerts you to alarm going off on the key fob and unlocks/automatically when you approach your vehicle/ multiple aux inputs/outputs and does code hopping and still allows you to keep the vehicle running when you remote start and enter the car/ cabin temperature monitoring on the key fob and more...

^^ yea its an awesome alarm i had a chance to play around with it a while ago ...its one of the main reasons why I installed a 2 way alarm besides the added security and functionality along with the piece of mind...but i got a dei product instead they run almost the same features but is a lot more affordable and still reputable..

I wish I had seen this thread before getting the Acura dealer remote start installed on my 2011 RDX. The Acura remote starter sucks... the engineers who designed the remote starter are seriously dumb. I am so pissed off. You have to shut off the car before you can get into the car and now I also have to carry two key fobs and they are both the size of 70's cell phones! What's the point of having two huge keys on you when Acura could have just combined them to be on the same key fob? I used to have a Python remote start on my 2002 honda civic, cost me $100 + $100 install and it did everything right. One key fob which will start/stop the car, close to 300 ft range, you can lock/unlock while car is running. Had security feature so you cannot operate without the key in the ignition. The Acura remote start cost me $600 installed after I applied the coupon Acura sent in mail for the holidays. and the stupid thing is that I have to shut off the engine to lock/unlock the doors. The range is alright - I get about ~100 ft from inside my house/office. How terrible... I've never seen a remote start where you have to shut off your car before you lock/unlock doors. Wake up Acura... other car manufacturers are starting their cars from a phone and you make me carry two bricks in my pocket everywhere! Terrible. Bright side is that the ladies think I am just happy to see them Now that I've vented that off my chest, I'll learn to live with this for now... I was just searching the web to see if there is any way to turn on/off A/C... but doesn't look like there is. So, you would have to remember to shut off your car with A/C or heat in on potition. This is fine. The remote start display does show that the engine is running or not. Apparently you can also program the car to turn the defrost on/off as well. You can take a look at Pg 18 of the install instructions here: http://acura.bernardiparts.com/Image...r_BII43535.pdf. **Setting the Automatic Defrost Function (If Equipped with Automatic Climate Control)** Turn the air conditioner OFF with the ignition switch in the ON (II) position, then turn the ignition switch to the LOCK (0) position. Press and hold both the REAR DEFOGGER switch and the RECIRCULATION switch, then turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position for at least 10 seconds. The set temperature and a number (01 or 02) on the air conditioner display will blink after 5 seconds, and stay on after 10 seconds. The number 01 indicates that the automatic defrost function is OFF, and the number 02 indicates that the automatic defrost function is ON. I am not too happy with Acura right now, should have gone with the after market piece voiding the warranty or not... oh well.

The RDX will require a key transponder Bypass Module. (Which bestbuy would charge at least an additional $200 for it.)
Because if this; they might also charge more with the installation.

It is to storage the valet key to read the chip inside the key to start the car.
But the newer unit can just read and store your chip information without having to lose your valet key.

You have to check with your local alarm shop to see which one they have.
I rather keep the valet because it will cost over $100 easily to make another.

I have the Python 991 - 2 miles range. (So they claim) and it has never let me down yet. (Knocking on wood)

https://acurazine.com/forums/1g-rdx-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-159/python-auto-starter-alarm-824260/

I will go with aftermarket when it comes to auto starter alarm.
More options,features and range.

I made my dissatisfaction known in the Acura service survey. A few days later the service manager called from Davis Acura of Langhorne, PA and provided me the option for some cashback or no cost removal of the remote start. I took the latter option. Yesterday I got the Viper 5704V (5901) remote start installed from Paul's Electronics, Bensalem, PA for $575 basic install. This usually goes for $600, but I got a $25 discount. I am loving it already. The engine keeps running if I started the car with remote start and get in the car, unlike the Acura remote start. Now I only carry the Viper remote and the RDX valet key with me.

The Viper has a ton of options you can configure. I didn't get the window roll up feature, which the installer said may void the warranty since they have to cut wires etc. Not sure how the driver 1 and driver 2 memory settings work. The Viper came with two remotes, one 2 way with display and one 1 way without display. I wish these remotes could apply the driver 1 / 2 settings such as the seat/side mirrors etc. If anyone knows this can be done please post.

Another peev of mine is that I cannot control the A/C or defrost through the viper. The Viper does show the inside car temperate (but its off by 10 degrees... shows 10 degrees higher every time) and does have defrost function, but I guess you need a separate module installed, or maybe it needs cutting wires so the installer may not have done that. Can someone tell me if they have this working and what needs to be done for the defrost to be controlled? Thanks.
