50" Panasonic Plasma in the back of the RDX?
50" Panasonic Plasma in the back of the RDX?
This is post # 100 for me.
I was going to buy a new 50" Panasonic Plasma tee-vee at Costco.
Think it will fit in the bck of the RDX - IN THE BOX?

Costco has amazing prices on HDTV's!
Anyways, whenever I have such a situation like yours, I call the store and have them measure the box and give me the dimensions. I hate to make useless trips; although in your RDX, I'm not sure any trip would be ever be useless.

2) wish I could "pop" the trunk with the key...darn, I miss that in my old taurus (that's all I miss w/ that car) wish I had a flat panel screen TV in the back too...but wish lists can get stupid

It all depends on the measurements but I doubt it. You might get lucky. My wife and I fit a 40 inch HP in our MDX but we had to remove the top of the box. It all depends on packageing and stand size also some have the stands detached for shiping. One things for sure is do not lay it on its back or front or sides. Plasmas are only ment to be shipped on there stand location only. If you go to Best Buy or Circuit City they will only load a Plasma like that if it does not fit standing up they will not put it in your car or truck. If they do it voids the warranty. But hey its Costco and you can return dead fish to them.
Heres a good article about Costos slack return policy. Make it fit if it doesnt. Put it on the roof.lol http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6449_7-6548193-1.html

get an LCD. plasma's have an issue with burning out over time.
as the plasma gets heated and cooled so much to make different colors the picture will start getting darker and darker. LCD have no such issue.
and you can also lay them sideways

get what you want. the half life on the displays are such that you'll likely replace it long before it becomes an issue. i've had my plasma for 3 years with no burn in, image retention, etc. just keep it upright when transporting and enjoy.
I have a plasma as well, and I love it. It just LOOKS way better than any LCDs I've seen, and I figure that in 8 years, it will be obsolete anyway. Just don't go around any corners "briskly" with it in the back, so it does not tip!
We got our 50" Panny Plasma into our 2006 Civic
! Of course we had to break down the box, but it wound up working well. My wife and I got it loaded up in about 5 minutes.
I think you would have to do the same in the RDX though. The box is going to be a bit too tall I believe.

It's more of the PITA to get it home. I can order it from the Panny store and get home delivery for $165.

Oh, and yes, I think it will fit.
Also, if this is the model I think it is, it is a highly rated unit by consumer reports.
Guess you won't be driving your RDX for a while after you get that set up

The essential ingredient for an efficient market is trust. Such institutional arrangements such as Costco's policies create an atmosphere of trust thereby decreasing the transactions costs of exchange. This in turn creates hyper customer loyalty and actually reduces their net costs of operation.
In contrast, say Indonesia for example, buy something and it is yours... problems and all and the retailer is in no way your advocate. Costco, in return for guaranteed demand levels of a manufacturer's product, requires their participation in "quality assurance" -- measured by customer returns. The result is a win for consumers, a win for manufacturers, and a win for Costco.
Costco wants its customers to be happy because happy customers are an essential requirement for sustained shareholder value. As a Costco shareholder myself, I'm very pleased with the company, the way they treat their employees, and the resulting profitable experience I've has a shareholder the last 4 years.

I was able to fit a sharp 46" LCD in the RDX with just enough room. Still in the box. I doubt a larger TV would fit, unless you take it out of the box.
I looked at plasmas and LCDs. I liked the look of a plasma slightly better (picture-wise), but keep in mind plasmas do really poor in well-lit rooms because of the reflection of the glass. LCD's have no reflection issues. If your room is not well-lit (few windows), I say plasma. Lots of windows/light, LCD wins hands-down.

And the delivered for like 50 bucks or something.
Plasmas usually have a reflective front surface, LCDs usually have a matte front surface.
The "bright light" issue for plasmas is if the light is coming from the angle you see reflected in its surface (directly behind you if you are directly in front of the display for instance). I have plenty of windows in the room where my plasma sits, but they are all behind it or at an extreme angle to it so it never bothers me even on bright sunny days - almost no loss of visibility. Any loss of visibility is due to a generic "backlighting" effect which would affect all display types equally.
On the other hand, if you shine a bright light on an LCD even at an angle, it will reduce its visibility across the whole screen due to the diffuse reflection whereas the plasma would reflect it at a specific angle. So there are room setups that make an LCD harder to see as well, but they are probably fewer and the disturbance is distributed over a larger set of angles which waters down its impact in any single direction.
So, in both cases, YMMV depending on your room setup.

be careful. i don't know what other stock room people tell you but when i worked at circuit city we'd have reps come in from different tv manufacturers tell us not to load plasmas in people's cars unless it was going to be stacked. he said there was a chance to ruin the plasmas if you laid it down flat. that's why i always recommended people to just have the tv delivered.
good luck
good luck
What econman said.
And Rizzo, on the outside chance you haven't figured this out yet, I was at my bro-in-law's this weekend and he just bought this sweet TV, also from Costco. Looking at the box, it looks too big to fit in an RDX. Unless as stated, you removed it (and then cut the box down, laying it flat for the TV to rest on or to help steady the TV. Hope that helps. Best bet is to call them and get box measurements. Or take them yourself next time you're there. I was also eyeing that TV, but I think I'll wait a year or two 'til prices come down some more.
FWIW, there were some brochures sitting in that section of my Costco on how to select an HD TV...with an offer for a $50 HD Costco gift card. Save yourself another 50 bucks on the deal.
