'08 versus '10

Hopefully, some of you have gotten over my decision of trading (and turned off your flamethrowers) my '08 Tech for a '10 Tech instead of waiting for the '10 MDX, which I had every intent on buying. However, I have no regrets whatsoever. Fini.

OK, here goes my comparison after 10 days of ownership:

Exterior:

I like the rear end better on the '10. They made some changes to the lenses of the taillights to give them a pseudo-LED look with a Fresnel lens appearance . I also like the tailpipe finishers better. They have a more up-to-date look in keeping with the trend on other vehicles. The wheels on the '10 are much richer looking, but I'm not too crazy about the flattened 10-spoke look. The smoke chrome inside the headlight housing is a nice touch. I HATE the chrome surround on the fog lights. The "beak" is OK. The ram air intake on the '08 for the turbo intercooler is replaced with a bottom breather design behind the "beak".

Interior:

The new footwell ambient lighting on the '10 is barely noticeable at night, but better than nothing. There is a new anchoring system for the floor mats on both sides of the '10. It's a plug and twist design. The light in the cargo area seems much brighter, but the fact that I have gray carpet instead of black may have some effect. The cupholders in the center console have a rubber insert, which helps a little, but not much. Still no foam pads in the cubbies. I have installed the ones from Mr. Wong already. The leather seems a bit softer in the '10. The power passenger seat is a big improvement and much appreciated by my wife. The tray in the center console can only be used in the back near the USB connection.

Engine, Ride and NHV:

The ride in the '10 is much improved over the '08--not as bone jarring over bumps and tracks, etc. Road noise is still an issue, but it is less in the '10. The steering seems a little looser in the '10. While the gearing is supposed to be the same, the '10 seems to have more bottom end now. Of course, no two engines are the same, so maybe I have a more powerful one, which is good.

Controls and Features:

The markings on the back up camera are really functional. The camera seems to come on quicker, but you still have to turn the dial to make it brighter. The auto on/off headlights do not have a sensitivity setting like on other Acuras. The XM Weather is nice, but it lacks a feature found in the RL, TL and MDX (when it comes out),--real-time radar maps showing areas of precipitation and intensity. The big hit for me on the '10 is the USB connection. However, the cord could be about 4"-5" longer for my liking. That said, a lot of the cords are going to be torn out by owners and/or their kids, IMO. The center stack has a different layout, but it is subtle. You would have to have pics next to each other to see the differences.

That's about it for now. Happy motoring!!!
