Mind me asking any tips you can share when looking for a NSX? I've been looking at 996tt/997tt for a while, but I just can't get past its maintenance costs and the Porsche tax... so now the 911 hunt is on hold and I've started looking at the NSX. Nothing like a machine hand built in Japan by the Japanese...

97-01 with the 3.2 V6 6MT/Targa is my target. Any issues with the 3.2L block you've found? I recently joined NSX Prime... great community!

I would curious to know what you think of this one which has a SC and then some: 1999 Acura NSX , $56,995 - Cars.com

I (briefly) considered that one, too. If you are familiar with how to tune for a SC AND NOS in a NSX, then by all means....

The price seems to be keeping people away, and the NOS thing. CTSC is a net plus as it's known reliable.

I paid a little less than that for my unmolested car of the same vintage.

As far as finding THE one for you: take your time and the right one will drop into your lap. When you find it, jump on it (PPI willing). When you see a VIN, Google the VIN to see if a thread in Prime comes up. If Prime says "don't do it", don't unless you know what you're doing.

Congrats, man...and it's nice to know you'd still want an S2000 in your future. Having sold one and bought another, I DO understand that crazy. I will always need to have one in my garage too.

The thread is a great example of how to use the considerable people resources on Prime well. A poster knew the NSX mechanic at the dealership I purchased from, and I got information about the work done on it well in advance of the salesman telling me. That's what put me over the edge to buy, in addition to Kamlung's inspection.

 

That's why I still love Acurazine...you never know the people you'll meet. The only people I trust to work on my car, I've found on Acurazine...long lasting friendships...BILLIONS of dollars saved in DIY threads that helped me diagnose and fix stuff.

Damn...yea, I don't blame you...that's how I feel sometimes too...I kinda grin and just row through the gears, especially now that it's not 100 degrees out in SoFla. With a newborn baby it's not the practical car I need...but I have the TL for that. Plus, buying the house and selling the sebring S2000 was what being a responsible adult was all about. And that's also when I realized that that's a bad thing to be.

Buy it back from them at what you traded it in at! Although you do need to spice up your color choices...maybe a RIO yellow one?? Since it's not a color for everyone they seem to go a little cheaper. You already know enough about them to be able to buy one that just needs some maintenance but doesn't have to be low mileage. Shoot...how far does Billman live from you?

Bro. That's like asking me which child I love the most. Don't make me do it. Waaaay too soon for me, still going through mourning for my S2000.

If I could have dumped my RLX lease right then, I would have BOTH a S2000 and a NSX, and no RLX. The best financial decision for me was to trade the S2000 instead, as getting rid of a lease is very expensive.

As to comparing the two cars, the only way to understand is to drive a S2000 for a long time, months or years. It is truly a very, very special car. Really. It's a reasonably priced, beautiful sports car that just happens to be a convertible. Sharp steering, awesome suspension. It goes where you want it to go, RIGHT NOW, without delay. Understeer? No way. You have to pay attention every second you are driving, or you will end up off the road. This is a good thing, because the S2000 becomes an extension of your body when you drive.

The NSX is also a special car, but in a different way. When you drive one, you are driving automotive history, an icon. It is more a GT car in its stock It is a gorgeous car from every angle, with a much more comfortable interior and automatic climate control. The steering is slower (i.e. not as sharp as the S2000) but at speed, it quickens up and in a steep turn the NSX feels just right. There is a teeny bit of understeer built in, but nothing onerous. I would be very comfortable taking the NSX onto a track, and I plan to do so shortly. It's much more comfortable on the highway in that a) the engine is spinning at around 3k rpm at 80 mph and sounds much more refined than the S2000. The seats so soooooooo comfortable. The visibility is damned near perfect, all around, there are virtually no blind spots--it's like driving a S2000 with the top down.

The NSX gets attention from EVERYBODY, and the S2000 not so much, believe it or not.

Lots more I can say but these are just comments are just the tip of the iceberg. I am NOT sorry in the least that I picked up a NSX, and further, that I picked up a NSX instead of something more modern. I don't care that it's not the fastest, that's what my V is for.

I saw your thread on considering a 911 vs NSX on Prime. That is another TOUGH decision as both cars are freaking amazing. I don't care whether it's a 996, 997, whatever, they are all amazing to me. I plan to own a P-car of some type in my lifetime.

actually, both times I ended up buying S2000's were directly related to having borrowed my close friend's German cars for a week.
S5 led me to the silver S one month later
2014 911 led me to the rio yellow one a week later.

Any updates on the Pride exhaust install?

 

I took the week off. I cleaned out my garage today for the first time in many years today and installed shelves. You guys can't laugh at my garage anymore!!!!!!

In addition, I looked under my NSX (STILL not stored for the winter, LOL!) today. I'm probably going to make a stab at installing the exhaust in the AM. I've presoaked the bolts with WD40 in preparation and have my heat gun at the ready just in case the WD40 is not enough.

Next step is garage tiles and wall-mounted tire storage, but that's for next year.

 

Exhaust installed after a long afternoon of trying not to strip the four rusty bolts that keep the exhaust connected to the cats. Let's just say that I'm sore from all the lying on hard concrete and using my muscles all day. Wow, that new exhaust smell is strong in this one.

Nice, deep tone with minimal, if any, drone. I'm putting together a comparison video and will hopefully post in the next few days so you guys can hear. So far, I think I made a good choice.

The saddest day of the driving season for any car nut in the North. I am thankful that late fall/early winter was warm enough that I was able to drive my "new" NSX as much as I have. Now, with snow and cold finally coming weeks late, it's time for the NSX to go to bed until late March/early April. Putting my Hrant Enterprises NSX cover to good use.....silver to match my Kaiser Silver.

I'll be visiting every 10-14 days to start it up, since I was too lazy to remove the battery and am storing it someplace without electricity for a battery tender, so I'll at least get to see it every now and again.

I pay about $150/month for a nice 10 x 20 space in a secure location with security cams everywhere.

Two of my sports car are stored in exact single car space at storage thus I was inquiring . They don't have a double so I rent two single

I like where this is going. If you get the front imo you have to get the sides because the front will sit lower than your sides. I'd also definitely recommend swapping to the 02-05 rear valence, the updated rear looks a lot better.

Dammit, modding is like crack or meth, maybe even worse. Every time I go on Prime or on the FB NSX owners, I get another idea.

Actually, I don't really like the WW sides, or any side pieces that have extra holes like that or the Stacey, makes it so that there's too much going on with the side. The 02-05 rear valence I don't know enough about to comment on.

I can't wait for spring! My only consolation is that I put my car to bed for the winter only a little over a week ago, so I only have to wait about 8 more weeks to pull it out! Going back there today for the ritual every 10-14 day startup to keep the battery charged.

you're right modding is like a crack habit, you see where it got me lol. i think i remember you saying when you bought it you weren't going to do anything to it until you bring it out in the spring.

if you don't like the sides with the vent in them you could go with the downforce 02-05 replica sides.

as far as the rear valence goes honda redesigned the lower rear half of the bumper for the 02-05 model. a lot of owners including my self tend to upgrade to it. just something to think about.

I changed my mind on the wheels, drastically. I just bought a set of gunmetal Advan AVS Model 5s, front in 17 X 8 +38 and rears in 18 X 9 + 40, more aggressive than the SSR GT1s I bought and a lot closer to being flush.



Imagine this set of Model 5s, just a little smaller and that's how they'll look after I'm done with a mild drop. Synth19 was helpful in choosing fitments, especially since I already have tires. I could have gotten 18 x 10 +45 on the rear but again, have tires for 9" rims. Should still look great.

My Willman-modified stock NSX radio is also here, having arrived last week. When it's a little warmer I'll install that. Can't wait!

 

PS My S2000 is now down to $17k at DCH. Go buy it! It was a good car to me. I'm now anxiously awaiting completion of my "mini-build" so I can enjoy the NSX this spring.

I wasn't a fan of the previous wheels you had picked out. These look much better IMO. I like the more angular (less curvy or bubbly) spoke design of these. Fits the '90s wedge shape of the car in my eyes.

EDIT: Okay, I changed it from '80s to '90s since that's more correct. But to me the 1G NSX will always have a 1980 Ferrari vibe to it. But that probably only make sense to me.
